    Default CUCV axles 1009 or1008 ?

I have a line on a set of what I think are 1009 axles BLAZER ? With
308"s. A little less than $700.00 front and rear brand new. never used.
I've been going to my local salvage yard looking at all of the (cash for
clunkers) all the trucks seem to be Chevy s10s or Fords. My NP205 is from a chevy so the Ford is out.

Question: I read an old post that said not to use the1009s, why?

I would like to keep the 715 spring under, front disk and rear drum.
    It has a Chevy 350, truck 4 speed 1 ton with a mated 205, and 11x16 xl
tiires. The truck is used mostly on the street and used for plowing my
    driveway.

M1009 axles are too light for the 715 (GM 10-bolt front and rear). You need M1008 or M1028 axles (Dana 60 and 14-bolt).

The 1009's used 10/12 bolt axles - good for about 1/2ton truck - or a Blazer

Really depends what you are going to do with your truck. If you are going to load it down, put big tires on it, or thrash it then I personally would avoid those axles like the plague. The stock axles are better in a lot of ways.
Upgrading to the D60/14bolt axles from a 1008 (or any of the other CUCV's) is a great upgrade. Modern axles/brakes/gear ratio/brakes and the D60 shafts are way stronger than our stock axles plus the 14bolt is as strong at the rear D70. You also get 4.56:1 r&p (most civilian units are 4.10) and a real Detroit lunch box locker. Throw a Lock Rite in the front D60 and you are unstoppable!!! Well, unless you are crazy like Doug

just my two cents. i think the front axle has to be out of a 1028 to have the detroit in it from the military .i know you can put one in . the 1008 is a cargo truck as far as the army goes and he 1028 is a troop carrier.guess they figured if it was carring troops it needed to be able to go further. IMO. one way to spot them from what i have been tol is that it (1028) will have a helper spring on the front spring pack.

The 60 in a 1008 is open, the 1028 has a limited slip.
