So f350 or cucv drivetrain?

i have access to both a m1008 and an older 7.3 idi f350 4x4 five speed.

What do you guys think would be better to use as the donor for the m715?

The Ford parts will probably require more mods to the truck. I think the Ford has a drivers side drop transfer case and front differential.

yes the ford is drivers side drop.

But if i have the complete truck...

7.3 idi diesel, modern hp axles and a five speed does sound a heck of alot nicer than a cucv though. The idi is even simpler to run and wire than a 6.2 from my experience and much more powerful.

Yep Ford is driver side drop while the M715 and the Chebby (CUCV) are passinger side drop, but if you want to keep with stick then use parts out of both....

I recommend you go with the Ford and give me the M1008.

the ford front axle will swap in very easily. the transfer case is also not a hug problem, even if you go with the ford engine and trans but want a 205.

rollie id gladly give you a m1008 to complete the restoration/ updates on my truck.

Cost is on you though if i give you the truck...

You can pick up a Ford 205 cheap cheap. See them all the time for $75-100.00.

7.3 kicks butt compared to a 6.2 IMO. The 1356 or whatever it is trans isn't great, but it's not too bad either. I wouldn't want to dump the clutch hard with big tires and traction. Driving it and even putting a load on it would be fine, just don't abuse the heck out of it.

im not too woried about the 1356 transfer.

If i pick this truck up it will be my 4th f350 with that transfer case, and my current 97 powerstroke i have is pushing some serious power to the ground and though i take care of the truck i do use it as a truck with 35" tires.

Im not worried about something that has 1/3 the power.

Dumping the clutch is never a good idea on a diesel especially if you have a dual mass flywheel like some of these older fords do.. very expensive to fix
