    Thumbs down Transfer Case Woes

Got the case out without too much fuss. Took me about an hour to scrape off 5 lbs of oily mud. Need to clean it up more before I open it up. Don't want all that stuff inside the case. Will clean it tomorrow.

Prob should order up a gasket kit too.

    More to come...

    Looks pretty good so far.

What would be the minimum to pull and then be able to move the linkage? Trying to figure if there is a way to look for the trouble before a complete gutting of the case...

O yeah, she's broke. The thrust washer (p/n 7994044) is broken. Don't ask me how. Guess I need a rebuild. Insert curse word here.

As another 'zoner told me tonight, better that it happened in my drive than out on a trail. Yeah, it sucks BUT at least I will have a fresh 'case now - just trying to make some lemonade here.

Hey Brandon, want to use my case as the guinea pig for a 200/205 hybrid?

Interesting, . probably just shifted things enough when you were pulling the yokes to do the seals to shake the parts loose, . ..How did the gears look? This might have been a blessing in disguise in more than one way. Of course it is better found in driveway than on trail, but also if gears are okay, it happening now might have saved much bigger problem when it spit parts into gears. I had a spicer 18 case come apart in my CJ while driving down the road, fortunately about a 1/4 mile from my house in a 25 zone, but it locked up the case tight, . .destroyed 1/2 the gears,. . .had to take drive lines out to tow it home. . ..

All the gears look fine as far as I can tell.

Silver lining...yeah, much better it happened at home...these things arent the cheapest to have towed from the middle of nowhere...

Hopefully it is a straight forward rebuild...were you thinking of trying the 205 guts in the 200 case?
