    Default New here, new M725

Hello from Wisconsin. I just picked up an M725 this weekend after searching for about 2 months. It's a '68, has a 350 swapped in, ran very nicely for the hour and a half drive back home at 45mph. Non-stock transmission, and transfer case too I think. Used by a mining company, said the new 1-ton trucks they have don't handle the harsh conditions like these old ones do. Also said the tubed tires have way less flats too. The interior is pretty hacked up, I don't think I'll be restoring it inside. Anyway, I'm sure I'll be searching here a lot and asking questions when I run into trouble. I can't wait to start working on this thing.

Welcome Dan. I'm sure you'll find volumes of knowledge here, and plenty of knowledgeable people willing to share what they know. Welcome to the madness.

Thanks. Actually this one came from near Black River. I'm in Eau Claire.

Can't say I've actually gotten under it to see exactly what tranny and t-case it has...must be a GM tranny though, you can see the shifter is relocated. Also, the t-case levers are not in the same hole. The front lever engages the front axle, forward is 4wd & rear is 2wd. And the rear lever (no knob on it in picture), is hi/low range...forward/low range, middle/neutral, rear/hi range. The back end was hacked for tool boxes, can't say yet what I plan for that. I have yet to trace the electrical, but by the dash and the new rear bumper & lights I'd say there may be no trace of operable 24v left.

Dang the 350 runs VERY good though, and it tracks straight and true...the brakes work, but leave something to be desired if you ever actually needed to panic stop.

Thanks for the welcome. Actually I got the madness last year, but had to get part with my M35 to pay medical bills from pregnancy complications. But all went well and now I have a beautiful little girl and another vehicle to work on. When I told the wife I was getting a truck she said "It's not another one of those weird army ones is it?"

I still want another M35, yard work ya know.

Interesting Ebrake handle...looks like stock axles...is that running to the stock type drum on the back of the tcase or to the rear axle drums?

Might be an interesting mod there...
