Thread: 6.2 vacuum pump

    Default 6.2 vacuum pump

    Good morning,

Wondering if I can remove the vacuum pump from my 6.2 and still run the engine with the opening blocked off?
Seems to me this pump does nothing with the application I'm using the engine for and I see no real use for it.

i think you will find the vac pump runs the oil pump just like a gas burner. the best you can do is remove the pump assy from the drive by removing the two bolts & then install a block plug the proper size to keep dirt out & oil in.

My M715 still had the vacuum windshield wipers, so I kept it in, plumbed it to a small can and hooked my wipers up to it. The 6.2 has no throttle and therefore no intake vacuum, so any vacuum operated devices you may have would need something.

Generally, how strong are vacuum pumps? Could I use one to power a brake booster rather than going with hydro-boost on a 6 bt pump?

I could use a 6.2 vacuum pump. Mine got busted during the last engine swap.

ford 6.9 & 7.3 diesels all use the vac. pump for the brake booster...i think the 6.9 came out in '81 and i have a 7.3 in a '90 model. adapt it....al

Per Rollie715's comment: I did a quick hookup of my vacuum wipers direct to the previously plugged side of my 6.2's vacuum pump 'T' fitting and got no wiper action. Is the vacuum cannister critical to that operation? I have a 6.2/TH400 combo from a CUCV so I need the other side of the vacuum system for the injection pump switch.

They make a low profile style vac pump, and I think a eliminator kit too. I can't remember where I seen it. But they do have them
I kept my vac for the wipers too. The vac line to your injecter pump is for the tranny kick down, the turbo 400 use that instead of a cable
    my signature is sweet huh?

I know, this is the second old thread I'm resurrecting in one day... but anyway, thought I'd chime in here just for the record:

The gear that drives the vacuum pump on the 6.2/6.5 also runs the oil pump. You can get a non-vac pump version that bolts in if you don't want the pump. When I bought my motor the guy selling it gave me a choice of which one I wanted. I took the pump version for the wipers.
