Thread: my stupid wiring question

    i have a new wiring harness. is there anything i need to watch out for as far as wires? can i reuse all the generator wires and such??? any need to be beefed up for 12 volt use???

    Do you mean that you have a NOS M715 harness? Or do you have a new generic harness?
    Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

    new M715 harness, as in made last year with waterproof connectors and all

    Add fuses, LOTS of fuses. Stock M715 harness didn't have any.

    Also, add a main fuse or circuit breaker between the harness main BAT feed and the battery/starter and also between the alternator output and battery/starter. Circuit breakers are nice because they double as a manuall shut off switch. For a stock M715 harness, make the main fuse for the harness no bigger than 60a. For the alternator fuse, size it to the alternator peak output +10 to 25%. BTW, the alternator fuse is not to protect the alternator -- it is to prevent an electrical fire if the alternator fails and shorts out!
