Thread: Gas Tank

    Default Gas Tank

OK I have a problem. My M-715 runs fine, buuuuuuuuuut ever so often while I'm bouncing down the road it starts to sputter and then die. No problem I know what to do. I pop the hood and then take the fuel line loose from the in flow side of the fuel pump, attach a rubber hose "I keep for just this sort of emergency," and then proceed to blow back through the line until I clear it or pass out, which ever comes first. I think the problem is the screen on the fuel pick-up tube in the tank. It is probably deteriated "is that spelled right" and is being sucked into the line. I saw a great post on how to replace this screen, but I have recently moved and do not have a shop or all my tools with me. So the big question. Does anybody know where I might find another tank that I can just swap out. Appreciate the help. Tony

Hey Tony, most people refer to the tank as unobtainable. Those lucky enough to have a spare good one usually get a mint for them. For ease of maintenence you may be able to drop the tank and take it to a radiator shop and have it flushed. My last truck didn't even have a screen, it had been removed by the P.O.

I was quoted about 70 bucks to have my tank cleaned and the mangled drain plug (and resulting leak) repaired by a local radiator shop. That might be your best bet to make sure you're starting with a clean tank and fuel etc so nothing else can be getting in your line or clogging the screen...

If you can get access to compressed air, you could blow through the line really hard, blowing off the screen completely or at least opening a large hole in it.

If you do that, then you will need to add another inline filter to catch any crud that might get sucked into the pickup tube.
