I can't say for sure, I've wanted to weigh one. After moving around 2 of the suckers, I say a fair estimate is 600-800 lbs. They are heavy suckers.

I had read 600lbs once. I just put one in my 63, and it sure seems to weigh at least that much!

Thanks ... a stock 4.0L from recent Jeep weight 525 pounds so say around 650 could be a real weight. I was aking before i thing that my 715 will weight 8000 pounds when finished with the 6bta installed.

Full dressed SBC weighs around 550lbs--I would say stock M715 is heavier.

I'm quite surprised at that weight. A stock BB Chevy with a cast iron intake is around 700 lbs.

Yeah-Near the demise of the BBC sometimes you would get a faster car with the SBC as opposed to BBC. Extra weight with very little if any extra HP. Add to that the heavy trans that usually came with the BBC--heavier springs etc etc.

Add to that the cost of performance parts for the BBC--you have to want to run a BBC. Or get one given to you. They do sound nice-had a 72 Vette with a stock 454---she rumbled

You do get the extra torque, though, right? Also, that same HP is at a lower RPM isn't it?
