Default When will the madness end.....???

Well it looks like I might be changing the plan for the 715. I was going to rebuild the 230, thought about a 292, bought 2 ford 300s w/manual trannies.

I have been reading Poolmike's build and ......today I bought a driveable Frito truck with a 4bt and TH400.

Which one would you put in????.

    I would do the 4bt and turbo400.

If you decide not to use the diesel let me know what you want for it. Shipping would kill me but knowing that the motor is running good might make it worth it for me.

4Bt, OD transmission and different gears will give you a hill climbing monster that will still go 80 down the interstate at 15-30 mpg.

Just the 4BT and TH400 you will have a trail king that will top out at 50-55 mph and get 15-20 mpg.
Remember if you didn't build it you can't call it yours.

Ended up getting 2 Frito trucks with 4bt's and TH400's. One drives and and one has a slipping tranny.

Anyone need parts from the vans before they go to the scraper?

So how much for the 2nd 4bt? Will you deliver for free?

So Wart Hog, do you have access to more of the 4BT's?

Do the 4bt. I would sell the TH400 for a 4L80 and keep your gearing low. Do not sell any part of either engine until your swap is complete. The end result is worth the install.

Hey Warthog, since you're thinking of other than stock what are your plans for the original 230? If you want to get rid of it, I'll come over and give you a hand pulling it if you're not going to use it.

When I got the truck, the original "partial" engine was in the bed. The distribitor and alternator where missing. The plugs had been removed and rain water collected in the engine. Wrecker in Ft Smith was kind enough to let me have a complete non-running engine from one of his trucks. I have it in the back of my mind to use the parts to rebuild one original engine for future use.

I bought the whole Frito truck with the running 4bt for less than the parts to rebuild the original under-powered 230....LOL

I have collected enough parts to do most of the rebuild.
rebuilt fuel pump w/"new" sytle gaskets (read ethanol safe)
    rebuilt water pump
    head gasket
    top end gaskets
    timing gear seal
    valve guides & seals
    valves
    rings
    2 barrel intake and carb
new air breather housing and filter

    Items needed:
    main bearings
    rod bearings
    oil pan gasket
transmission shifter (thanks to the US Forest Dept)

Let me know what you need and we might work something out as I would like to see your truck returned to original issue.
