Being new to the MV world I have many questions. I am bringing a '67 M715 back to life slowly. I have seem several images of them with yellow/amber headlights but can not find an explaination as to why these were installed.

I am a far cry from being an expert but I've heard they were for use in Germany IIRC. Something about low visibility on frequent occasions. If this is your first post, welcome to the "madness" as we say.
Welcome aboard!
I too have heard they were used in Germany...and in fact in many places in this countr, they are illegal for on road use.
Welcome!!
Same principle as using yellow driving glasses. The yellow light doesn't reflect as harshly as a bright white in snow/fog giving better visibility.
Germany? (Where's Wolf Dose?) I never saw yellow headlights when I was in Germany. I hear they use them in France though.

Yes, the yellow lights were a European thing. I believe that they were required for vehicles used in France. As units moved around Europe, there tended to be a mix of the lights as a truck may have came from France but was now stationed in Germany and such like that. This is also how some ended up in Vietnam. As European units transfered in to Vietnam and brought thier equipment and parts with them so did thier yellow headlights. I have a set on my M37, only because they were on it when I got.

I have seen the yellow head lights in most pictures I have seen of the "Gun Trucks" of Vietnam. Talked to a fellow worker who was 101st Airborn in 'Nam. He recalls the yellow lights also. I think they look a bit more intimidating. Any one seen 24v yellow headlights for sale?
There are a few guys on ebay who are taking new 24v lights and having them coated to make the yellow lights. But original yellow glassed ones are starting to get hard to come by.

A car-nut friend of mine in high school loved that yellow headlight look (until he got a ticket for running them!)
He used a yellow indelible ink marker, believe it or not, to color a standard white headlight! Worked great! And a heck of a lot cheaper than yellow headlights...

Interesting European phenomenom, go to England and the headlights are clear as are the TURN siginal lenses.
