Default which rifle fits rifle holder

Does anyone know which rifle the 715s rifle holder fits?
I have a M1 carbine that fits like a glove. My CAR15 A2 barely fits with stock extended. I don't own an A1 or earlier model AR15 but it does"t look like the forearm grip was designed for the old delta style forearm.
I appreciate any info or references.

Seems to me that during the developement of these trucks that the M-1 Garand and the M-14 were still in use ,the M-14 being the most so my guess would be either of those, moreso than a M-16.

Actually, they were probably made for the M1 Carbine (or the M2, which is the same profile, but full auto.) Unless policy had changed after Korea, truck drivers were usually not issued full sized battle rifles (Garand / M14), they were issued M1 carbines.

The M1 carbine was phased out, even from Guard and Reserves, in 1966. Not saying there weren't a few stray's out there as I know they were in Vietnam through the 70's but not general issue. Mostly to the Vietnamese. We were then issued the Garand for a very short time then the M16. The M14 was used for basic training in the 60's but did not last long in front line service except for special use (squad full auto version).

I have a mount kit, unopened in the box, that I'll see whats on the paperwork. It's buried in my shop so I need to find it.

The 715 Manual says the mount is for the M14 rifle.

The mount was designed for the M14, but the M16 will also fit it. CAR15's is a whole different animal. Also which butt holder do you have. There were two types. A egg shaped one and a rectangle one. The egg shaped one worked wtih wood stocked weapons better and the rectange could put almost any weapon into them. I've had a M1, M1 carbine, M1A, AR15 in my holders in the past.

I think the "egg" pattern was the stock mount on the M715, but I've only looked at two trucks for comparison.

Well seems that we all have good points, but us lowly Marines were still packen the M-14 for awhile in THE NAM,and they are still in use today as match weapons and the Army uses them in Iraq still as squad sharpeshooters and just for the point of it,the M-1 and the 14 are wonderful long range weapons, even in basic service use they can give you another hole up top at 1000 yards. And yes I know, this is not a service rifle site, lol.

All the stock ones I have seen are oval...did the other type come on these trucks too?

    Default Found it!

Found the mount kit. On the box it says "KIT, M14, M16 RIFLE MOUNTING, 1 EACH" plus alot of part and stock numbers. There are two mounts in the box plus hardware and various brackets to fit different locations as well as drawings and instructions. I have not opened all the little boxes yet. If anyone is interested, I'll open everything up and take a few pix.
