Default front spring over axle question

when doing a spring over stock axle in the front end, i know you have to install the drag link and steering link on top of the pittman arms. my question is do you just weld up the stock holes and then redrill and taper ream the holes so tierod end holes are reversed from stock ? i,am fixing to do the front and i,ve already done the rear.

it seems that one of the most common ways of doing it is to change the tierod ends for another commonly available part number, and just re-taper the existing hole with a larger taper...

a couple searches should dig up the exact part numbers for the ends and taper...

I bought the dropped pitman arm and displayed it but didn't need it. Just to let you know. Be careful reaming those holes from the top, I suggest taking off the arms and doing it with them clamped and with controlled speed, lube and pressure. Other-wise you get chatter and don't get a smooth taper. Dan

Oh, machine a little and phisically check the new tie rod end often.

I did a spring over and converted to chromoly rods and heim ends. I drilled the control arms and welded misalignment spacers so the heims would not rub on any surfaces.

Yes that Ford pitman arm fits the full size jeep (power steering) box. I slid the one I have over the shaft of mine, it fit. My spring over did'nt need it like I thought it would.
I ended up with a later FSJ box with O-ring seals for my bigger pump.
