Thread: sbc conversion

    Default sbc conversion

I am considering a sbc conversion on my stock M715. I am wanting to keep it stock appearing and using all of the original running gear. I would be interested in any feedback and advice anyone can give me. I see that novack conv. makes a kit for the motor mounts and adapter plates to hook the stock t-98 right to the sbc. If there is something better please help. I'm doing all of this on a very tight budget and need to keep my cost down so any help would be appreciated.

Novak, Advanced Adaptors, and a former member of the zone Bob Cowan had put together a good kit as well.

Find an OD trans and go that route. 350 SBC will get you 7 mpg or so. 350 SBC and spicer plates with the OD tranny I went with AA adapter I think and worked really good but now wish I had an OD tranny.

I used the Novak set up. I will tell you this..it is much easier/cheaper to just find a SM465 trans and put it in. Use a hydraulic clutch set up and forget about it.

I will be posting the Novak engine mounts and also some 'Spicer' style mounts on the for sale forum soon.

i think an od would be a nice addition as well. Barrman(along with others i'm sure) used the 2wd version of the NV4500 with their np200 and the stock jack shaft. the shifter landed in the stock hole.

How does the sm465 mount to the original crossmember and con I use the stock jack shaft? And is anyone intereste in purchasing the 230 and t-98 transmission?

You might need a new jack shaft, and you will have to do a little fab work for the trans mount. Far less expensive than an adapter kit.
