Default Tubes and Flaps or Just Tubes?

Standard factory rim. I'm about to replace the tires. Do I need flaps as well as the tubes, or just tubes without flaps?

The flaps protect the tube from rust or any other irregularities in the rim as well as normal rubbing. Gotta have them.

Actually the main reason for flaps is to prevent pinching when installing lock ring. Flaps are not required(and just a b****)to install on single piece tube rims.

Think of wearing work boots without socks-- that would be like tubing a tire without a flap (on a stock 715 rim), as I see it.

I hear tell the best tubes can be got at Universaltire.com. The radial tubes are the ones to get.

Whatever you DO, don't get the ones Summit sells...

The flaps I got at Summit seem to be working well, however.

flaps don't usually go bad, so if you already have flaps that are not torn or otherwise damaged they will be ok.

I got my tubes from universal tire. Radial tubes work for both bias ply and radial tires. They are a thicker rubber than bias ply tubes.

And make sure you clean the inside of the tire of any debris to help prevent flats.
