Rear Axle question ....

Ive read the axle thread a 100 times ..... lots of options .. so now Im confused.
Can someone tell me if this rear can be made to work in the M715 with a disk conversion?

You really need to measure the width between the brakes and see if it will clear the leaf springs...The wide g-van rears are good for that.

Thanks Ray ... I'll think I'll just go with Hillbilly Wizard. They have the M715 measurements and will build me anything I want shipped to my door. I'm going to go with a D60 up front and D70 in the rear, four wheel disk, with the detroit locker in the rear. We are discussing gearing. 4.10 r 4.56. I have 4.56 now and I'm happy with those. So probably 4.56 based on a 37/38 tire. I'd like to run H1 12 bolts.

How much are those custom rear axles running?
Without a tape measurement, and all the variations from the factory “standard” axles it seems like a crap-shoot on getting the right width.

You'd think but he's done a number of M715s and he working with my mechanic to validate measurements. And yes they are spendy but they will be dead on new with modern components and plug-and-play when they arrive. Sometimes you gotta pay to play. With the way it is now I spend more time fixing it than driving it. I'd rather be at the range than in the garage.

I agree! I meant the standard numbers from GMC/Chevy/Dodge seem to be different depending from year to year, make and model that it can be difficult to rely on axles actually fitting according to the “axles that fit.” I should have written my response better. I would love to buy a custom axle for sure!

Please check my sanity:

The stock WMS is:

73.5" front
72.5" rear

I run a 10" 16.5 with 5" BS - 37x16.5 H1 tires so backside of rim to rim is:

63.5" front
62.5" rear

I'm assuming the following:

Dana 60 DRW front axle w/ hubs to 77.5"
Dana 70 DRW rear axle w/ hubs to 77.5"

Stock H1 Hummer rims are 9" 16.5" with 7" BS so so backside of rim to rim is:

63.5 front
63.5" rear

Almost exactly the same tire placement as I have now .... Am I right?

Just curious how much was the rear axle thinking on doing the same for the front and rear

The rear was roughly 3K with disk brakes, D70 4.56 gears. It also has a Detroit locker but i expec tg that may cost me extra. Havent gotten the official final number.

UPDATE: so $2825K for the axle with disk brakes 77.5 WMS to WMS plus $700 for the locker, then tax , mounting hardware, etc.

So I have a 725 I'm assuming these axles will work for me. If so can I call the guy and ask him to build me some
