230 valve adjustment
Need advice/info on valve adjustment for newly rebuilt 230. Prior to starting it the first time how should I adjust the valves? I'm familiar with the adjustment that is performed while the engine is running but what about presetting them the very first time? The head was just done and a new camshaft and rocker arms have been installed.
Any help is appreciated.

230 valve adjustment
You can't really adjust them with the engine running. Just set the clearance to spec and break'er in. Once it's warm, you can reset them.

Set them at .006-.008 cold. Run your engine and get the cam broke in. Then reset them again at .006 -.008 with the engine hot. M1028

Just to be sure.... at cold with the engine not running...when I measure and the set the clearance. What position should the cam lobe be at? Rotated so the peak of the lobe lobe is at its highest point against the rocker arm being adjusted? Or not in contact with rocker arm at all?
I'm guesing not in contact, else the valve would never open?
Hey it's my first time....

Not in contact...if you look at the cam lobe, the pointed part should point straight down...getting it close by eye is good enough.
