Extra Holes
Post by barrman on Sept 20, 2006, 8:15am
Since I didn't have any hope of ever getting rear bumperettes until yesterday, I never paid attention to how they mount. Now that I care, can anybody tell me what the extra holes are for?

I just took the first picture I came across. Thanks for posting it Tim.

Hold a liecense plate up to it. I bet the holes line up. At least the extra holes on mine do. Obviously where a PO had mounted a plate.

I've wondered that myself, although not enough to ask. You are referring to the two just inboard of the bumperettes, correct?

I have asked that question several times over the years and no one has ever come up with an answer...
The 3 to the left of the pintle, forming a wide triangle, and 2 to the right of the pintle are stock on M715's...of course your extra trailer plug deal at the near left of the pintle is not stock...I know you know that but maybe a newbie wouldnt be sure...

Yes, those 5 extra holes are what I am referring to. Also, is there a specific for the application spacer used on the tiedown housing (I am mentally blocked from thinking up the proper name right now) since half is over the bumperette and the other half bolted directly to the frame? I was going to use washers or make a piece of 1/8" metal strap fit there. Just wanted to check before I started making it.

No idea what the extra holes are for but the bumperette can be located in either of the holes. If you use the inside ones it just moves the bumperette inboard more. Don't know what the need would be for that.

My shackle brackets have a thick washer the same thickness of the bumperette under the two outboard bolt holes to make it set even.

There is a spacer on the one side of the bumperette as seen in the illustration below, #17:

I **think** it is pretty much the same as the ones on the rear axle under the lifting hubs to space them on the longer studs...will check on my truck tonight if no one else has by then...thickness dimension of the spacer would be nice to duplicate instead of a washer stack...

The spacers are the same as the ones on the axle. If anyone has some that they want to part with I need a few. Some of mine have gone awol.
