Civy dist.
Been tryin to get more speed out that old 230 but just not there,Thought Id look to see if the dist. was getting good advance. sucked on the vacume tube and moved but really had to suck "really hard" not sure if its suppose be that way.Can any one give advice on how to check that? JOHNNY

It does take a bit to get it to move...the way to check is to hook up a timing light with the vacuum advance DISCONNECTED and start the truck. Check the timing and see where it is...dont need to be real exact here just for a check...then with the light still on, hook up the advance and the timing should move noticeably...if so, it works.
If you go through and figure exactly what the timing is in connected and disconnected modes, you can see how many degrees difference you are getting...I am not sure what the degree difference is offhand...maybe someone else has that info...

Where did you hook up the vacuum advance hose to on the 230 engine? What port did you use?

On the drivers side at the front of the head, there is a port...I came off of that.
Ideally you want ported vacuum but their isnt any on a stock 230.
