Got a few dead batteries on the truck I just bought and was wondering what the correct/original spec was. How many amps, size?
Thanks,
Michael

The original batteries that came in these trucks were rather small. I use the largest battery that will fit, two of course wired in series. Large batteries, 24 volts will give a lot of cranking power. I will check later and give you the information off of my batteries.
Thanks Don.
Group 24 size was about the max when I put mine in. There may be others that work OK as well.
sorry to take so long. Here is the information. Battery group size 65. They fit well and have plenty of power. I have had them since January 2011 as indicated on the sticker on the battery.

I have a leaky diode in my alternator (army calls it a generator) and it will drain the batteries if I leave them connected. The alternator still charges well. But I disconnect the link between the batteries when the truck just sits. I have plans to put hold downs but have not gotten to it yet. So, in the mean time, they have some scrap 4X4 wooden blocks keeping them spaced. The battery cables are not original. They appear to be welder cables, not a bad thing.
I run two large Interstate batteries. They give me great service.
