Sending unit placement on BBC ??

I went with electrical gauges and had some questions concerning sending unit placement.

I have installed the Oil Press. unit over the Oil filter.

Where should I install Temp unit ? I do have a port on the Intake manifold, but will probably use it for a Heater hose. I do see some plugs(looks like 1/4 or 3/8 pipe plugs) towards the bottom of the Block but do not know if they are for Water or oil.

2nd Question is, Is a weld in Bunge better for Trans. temp. sending unit or is the in line manifold fine ?

Mine is in the head.

Sure those plugs arent' for an oil cooler? Oh wait. Not on that block.

There are two plugs that you can remove with a 5/16 square drive. Thes plugs are by the filter and I assume for a cooler. The Plugs I was talking about
are towards the bottom of the block and removed with a wrench.

Chris, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the plugs near the bottom of the block you are thinking off are the plugs that cap-off the drilled oil passages inside the block..see if it looks like they line up with the main bearings...

Taco is right, the factory placement is in the cyl. head.

ahh those. Pretty sure those are coolant drains. I've got an '89 block sitting around, I'm about 80% on that-- havent' gotten into it yet.

You and Mark have newer blocks though. :)

yep the bottom plugs along the upper oil rail are coolant drains. The ones above the oil filter apdapter are oil drill holes.

For anyone reading this: Elohim has a pretty, new block to work with. Be VERY CAREFUL if you want to mess with those on an older motor. Useful for draining every drop out of the block, but they tend to break off due to corrsion. ;)

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I stuck the sender for the water Temp in the Drivers side head.;)

I suppose I will go With the inline manifold for the Trans. temp sender. it Will be off the ground a little more and I wont have to pull the pan, Drill, weld, etc...
