soft top attachment to windshield

i have a bikini top for my m715, i was going to put it on my truck because the old top was falling apart and it was rigged on with screws and strips of aluminum on the windshield frame. anyway, since i really don't something to look at it is a little confusing as to how the top is supposed to attach to the windshield. i have seen pics of tops and they are folded over the front edge of the windshield frame. i have the snaps on the front corners of the frame, and i see where there used to be snaps on the door window frames, and i can get some replacement snaps for those.

so my question is, how does the top actually attach to the front portion of the windshield frame? because it appears that it would just blow off without some kind of rigid support.

any pics or advice is welcomed, thanks

My wife made one for my truck...I had her sew a loop in the front edge so I could insert a piece of square tubing...in 1/4 or 5/16ths inch or so...might have been as large as 3/8ths but I doubt it...I measured the channel, left a little bit for the material and bought whatever size that is...put the square tube in the top, push carefully through the channel....poof.

there should be a C chanel strip spot welded across the front top of the outside of the frame, in which a beaded edge of the top slides into

The channel on my windshield was cut off by the Forest Service, so I had one made out of a piece of square tubing. Here it is after it was tacked onto the windshield. It should give you a good idea of how the top attaches.

Just sew a piece of small-diameter rope in a hem at the front edge of your bikini top and slide it in the channel.

that last post cleared it up for me, there is no channel on my windshield frame. i am familiar with cj and wrangler tops, so i knew there had to be something for it to attach to. thanks a lot guys.

by the way there is a snap on each end as well for the orignal top

I went to a boat shop and got a channel for the windshield, about $20. Mounted it using S/S bolts & nuts, add a little silicone done deal.

Heh, heh... It cost me $20 just to get the groove machined and de-burred! :oops:

the snaps are there on the front, and there are snaps on the bikini top too, thanks.

the boat shop channel sounds promising, what exactly did you ask for when you went in? thanks

I think they said it was 'rope channel', 'top channel', something like that. I just told them kinda what I was looking for.

Same shop made my top some years back, still going strong.

You might want to make sure whatever you get will work with a stock top too.
