Need help with replacing motor

Our 68 Jeep that we use as our brush fire truck has some major motor problems. We are looking for help with replacing it with a new/newer motor. I've been told to put a Chevy crate motor in it. My question is where do I get one and all the kits that I would need to put it in. I was told there was a place in PA that knows which kits and so on but can't seem to find them. As of right now we are only going to do the motor so we can get it back in service but in the future would like to upgrade more of it. Any help would be greatful.

You should find a good running truck in your area, and use the transmission and motor from it (2wd). The adapter kits are worth more than the new transmission 98% of the time. Then, find your local 4x4 shop, they will be able to make you new crossmembers and source a new jackshaft to mate to the transmission.

Or you can spend twice that on a crate motor from Pace, or Scoggins-Dickey, or your local GM dealer as well.

One of our members, BCOWANWHEELS, offers a kit, including engine mounts, that would allow you to bolt a Chevy 350 V8 motor directly up to the existing drivetrain for around $500 to $550, IIRC. Post in the Wanted forum if you are interested and I'm sure he'll respond, if he doesn't see it in this forum.

We'd also probably have members in your area who would appreciate getting your stock motor for parts and whatnot, if you do go through with the swap and wouldn't mind holding on to the motor for someone to pick it up.

The swap you are contemplating is really common and not too complicated. This site will steer you through it all the way, or if you prefer, I can get in touch with the fire department in Tontitown, Ar. There's a guy there who has done exactly to their brush truck that you are planning to do. His work is very professional and as a fellow firefighter, I'm sure he'd be happy to steer you in the right direction. It might take a couple days to get his number, but I'll see what I can do. Bill

What kind of pump and how is the pump driven?

The pump is a gas high pressure Honda pump. I'll try and get some pic's of the pump and water system over the weekend.

Amphi has the pump in his retired firetruck too. It'd be great for hosing us all down after we get out trucks muddy, eh?
