need to repaint my m715, it is now faded, and am thinking of changing up the paint from Stars to US NAVY and seabee markings. I know delta team has pics of the M37 with the markings, wonder if anyone has pics of a 715 with them. also wondering if the you had a vehicle that was on a ship, if it would have a ship number on it? or just the SeaBee unit number?

It's about the only decent pic I have of original SeaBee's markings on a M715.
SeaBees were not assigned to a ship. I work with a SeaBee and he makes fun of me because I spent more time on a ship than he did and I was in the Marine Corps. He had never been on a ship in the 6 (or 8, I don't remember) years he served.Quote:

I am thinking about asking Dave if he would make me just the 'Bee emblems for my truck and add them to my Marine Corps truck. I know it isn't correct but since my dad was in the Navy I wouldn't actually mind. I doubt many civilians would even know the difference.
He is looking to see if he can find any photos from his time in the Navy that show what he calls my M715 a "Weps". He says they still had trucks like mine when he started in '79. I thought I had read somewhere that they had all been phased out by the mid seventies but he is sure that his battalion had them.
I talked to a guy at a stoplight sometime back that complimented my truck and said he drove them in the Service.
I complimented him back saying he didn't look that old.
He said they still had them in the 1980's.
I think he said he was a SeaBee, but he may have said Marine.
One of our members did do a Seabee setup...trying to remember his username...
I cant remember and cant find anything on it...I know a member did one that way...seems like he was from Wisconsin too...dang Im getting old...
From my research a SeaBee truck would have been OD or MC green. With the US Navy For Official Use Only on the door like pictured above and then it would have on the side of the truck the bee emblem with the rope ring around it and that's about it. Or just the bee emblem on the door and that's it.
My truck had US Navy on the hood.
My co-worker brought in some books today (I forgot what he called them but they reminded me of a high school yearbook) that had some pictures in them. The pictures didn't show the M715 that well but it is better than nothing I guess. I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of the pictures today because we were both too busy and didn't end up working together. I think he will have the books there tomorrow still so I hope to get some pictures then. The youngest book was from 1984 and it had a picture of an M715 in it still in use at that time. The oldest book he had was from 1981.
I did ask for clarification about SeaBees being attached to a ship. He told me there were some Amphibious Construction Battalions that were aboard ships. He was in a NMCB (Naval Mobile Construction Battalion) that didn't sail anywhere. They had different jobs is one way to describe it I guess.
Well I did have a couple minutes today to look through the yearbooks. There weren't many "good" pictures that showed an entire M715 and the markings but my coworker is going to look for his old pictures that he took with his camera. I didn't really look thoroughly through the yearbooks yet either but didn't really have enough time. I'm sure he would have let me take them home but I totally didn't think to ask him. Maybe on Monday I'll remember. Anyway here is a picture of a picture from a yearbook from 1984. It shows an M715 either going into or coming out of a C5 I think.

I also asked him if the number on the door of the truck had any relevance to his unit and he studied it for a second and said "I don't think so."
The Navy had a different registration numbering scheme.
