Welcome, and nice looking 715!
Yes, welcome to the party. Don't hesitate to post up more pix of your new truck-- it looks pretty nice.
Will do, still need to get it home first. But I will certainly post when I do. Looks like tons of great info and people on this forum.
Very cool and nice looking truck. Sincere welcome to the flock! I love these trucks.
Welcome:) Looks like you have found a nice one.
You have come to the lovingly home of the M715.
Like others have already said, we love pictures.
Dan
Thanks again guys. So my plan is to make this a truck a truck I can cruise around town in. I've been digesting as much info as I can in preparation. (I wish I had more pics but truck is 250 miles away and I wont be towing it home until mid November.) First off I'm decently mechanically inclined (with mostly bolt on type of stuff). I had a F150 with 375,000k on it and never once wen to a mechanic. I have access to welders, torches, and other metal fab equipment. Couple generic questions:
1. I'd like to swap the axles to 8 lug and the consensus is go with axles out of CUCV. What type of modifications are needed to accomplish this?
2. 24v vs 12v what is the better way to go?
3: Power steering, my girl is a jeep girl and would love to drive this. How difficult to fit it with power steering?
Sorry for the questions that you've probably answered many times.
Thanks again
1. Research your axles and decide if you want to remain "Spring-Under-Axle" like OEM to keep it low...... this is definately more labor intensive to do.... (I am doing Spring Under Axle conversion also)
2. Depends on your accessories... the 24v system made it this far.... If you want to tack on alot of stuff...or if your wiring harness is in dire straights.. .definately affect the decision.
3. Power steering is one of the easier things to do to these trucks... multiple boxes are a bolt in affair.... google M715 power steering and majority of threads on the zone will pop up first telling the secrets.
Nice looking truck!
CUCV axles are getting very hard to find cheap now-a-days.
Nice looking truck.

I can't comment on axles or steering, but while owning an M43 and an M37 that I drove daily, I got really sick of an electrical system voltage that the aftermarket offers almost NOTHING for. 24V is, IMHO, a PITA.
It might, however, be less of a pain than converting all electrical accessories to 12V. I happened to enjoy that process on the M715, kissing all that 24V stuff goodbye.
The Uhaul looks like it's loaded to full capacity.
Maybe just a tad over. Towed it 280 miles with my F-150 without any problems (minus a couple moments where the trailer was doing the driving).
Bet that was exciting. That poor u-haul trailer will probably never be the same.Quote:
(minus a couple moments where the trailer was doing the driving).
Get that carpeting out of there and let that girl try out before it rots out.
BTW, that looks like a Plymouth 318 CID Poly engine?
Yeah, I told Uhaul I was towing a 67 CJ6 and used my 2016 F-150. The trailer actually handled it nicely, but a couple wind gusts made for a couple white knuckle moments.
And you're exactly right on the motor (that I think is gonna make its way to junkyard).
anyone tell me if I can hook up a 12 volt battery tender on the two 12 volt batteries of my 24 volt system on the M-715........she is gonna sit for about 3 months now.........thanks for any info out there...........
I would disconnect the batteries and charge them seperately. I think there was a long thread about that on here last year... don't remember the details but charging separately seemed to be the consensus.
thanks, bought a couple of cheap battery tenders 12 volt and was just wondering how to do it.........
They do make a 24 volt tender.
I like it! The blade looks like it weighs a ton all alone. What 5 speed do you have in there? I could be wrong looking at the shifter.
I wouldn't trust tenders unless you can check on them regularly...

Also, fwiw, I'm a fan of the junk I've got- like everyone. Ford 1-ton axles (easy Napa parts, craigslist wheels, etc) and an all 12v system.
