I stopped to check out the 725 at the VFW just north of here, in Berthoud the other day. It is a pristine truck, and while taking it all in, checklisting items on my 715, I noticed the spare wheel underneath the back, and the rack holding it, and got to wondering whether this was common to the 715, also.
It looks like it would fit, but I'm not absolutely sure. Would it? I got real tired of a wheel taking up space in the bed of my M37.

This is a good question as i have some torn away sections of my frame crossmember that only point towards where a tire rack would have been mounted. Anyone have pics of one?
The M715, M725 and M726 have the wheel underneath. I think the wheel is inside the rear compartment on the M724 maintenance truck.

Looks like another part has been added to the Needs List.
The M724 has the fuel tank where the spare tire would normally be.
That looks like a real balancing act to me, a gateway to LOTS of frustration.

The tire iron gives a lot of leverage to assist lifting the whole mess up to hook onto the bolt. Tire iron MUST be inserted into socket before placing tire.
Still sucks, but I could never lift a tire/wheel up into the bed as an alternative.:confused:

Nailhead, I forget what size tires you are running. The stock tires fit the spare mount perfectly. Anything wider or taller will not fit no matter how long you make that single hold bolt. Moving the round cross member forward though will allow up to 38" tall tires to fit if the arms for the bracket are lengthened a bit.

I've done on the side of the road. Plus a few times at home. It really isn't that bad. I have learned to use a floor jack to raise the tire/rack as far as it can travel and then standing up. I lift the rack the rest of the way and slide it onto the bolt.

This is what I did in my truck, using a strap winch. It is still a dirty affair to lift the tire into its home, but it can easily be done using a 10" ratchet. Making the rim line up with the two 1/2" threaded rods is a bit tricky :lol:
But it is a must for a 200lb HMMWV rim/tire/runflat. It would balance better if the tire was upside down, but I wanted access to the valve stem from underneath.

The best option is to go with the original design and have a 18-19 year-old kid install it.

FYI the tire carrier looks to be the same as a 63-71 Jeep Gladiator. Might be the same as a Wagoneer tire carrier as well.
Anyone know how high the bed floor is above the frame rails int the back there? Setting up for HMMWV spare and Trying to do all of my frame fabrication before it goes out for blasting and don't want to put the bed back on to measure...Thanks!

If the tire carrier is the same as civilian, that would be cool...though none of them used a tire size as big as ours so I wonder...
For future reference, it is right around 5" up to the bed crossmember from the framerails so a 12.50 tire can go up fairly high if you shorten the snubbers...

Amen! When I put mine in I had no help so after trying a few times with no luck, I ended up using the floor jack to lift the assembly up while holding it with one hand to steady it. Could not do that today, too old!!Quote:
