When making a long road trip in your M715, what are the recommended spares you should carry (Stock or Modified)?
(I had asked this question in the Stock Tech, but "Queen B" asked me to post here)

LOL ... well "long" is relative. If stock, and you are going across country, just about everything:
fuel pump (stock diaphram will get eatten)
tire (flats)
carb tools (adjusting will be necessary)
timing light / and general tools (timing goes out easy)
spark plugs (stock ones will foul)
oil (for the leaks that you will get) engine AND gear
distributor cap (for sure will go bad)
points (basically you need all the tune-up parts)
etc.
etc.
perhaps a coil and/or altenator
POLs Parts Oils and Lubricants. Take common parts with you. .. Light bulbs, fan belts, even an extra light switch if stock. Maybe a ujoint or two. Take Oil (motor oil, gear oil etc) and Lubs like axel grease, and grease gun LPS WD40 etc. Take the tool box to include your perswader and anything else also manuales. That way if you have to fix it you can. In the parts area also take items that you feel or know might go bad on the trip... of course you have to do some head scratching on this so as to not take a whole truck with you...:)
I'll add my glove box kit.....cap, rotor, points, condensor.
If the truck has the aftermarket lockout hubs on the front....like mine....carrying the stock flanges in case of breakage in one of those is a good idea!!

I have an hour long ride to town along highway that has no phones to use, so what I take is the standard kit that stays in my rig:
2- 5 gallon gas cans.
Nozzle to fit said cans.
1 D60 stock hub flange.
Klien 6-in-1 screwdriver
4 ring clams of various sizes.
1 quart of PS fluid.
1 complete SAE socket set w. 3/8" drive, and 4" ext.
About 10 bolts and nuts of varying sizes.
Some tie wraps.
A coil of bailing wire.
A couple of cotter pins.
And 2 spare belts- 1 PS and 1 Alt.
To the FE I'll add to that
2 engine oil filters,
6 quarts of oil,
3 gallons of gear oil,
4 tubes of grease and gun,
8 spare plugs,
and the cell phone charger.
In 98 I took all the above and used all of it, and then in the end still had to be towed. If only I'd taken another cam.
The moral is that the one part you REALLY need is the one that's sitting on the shelf in the shop at home.

Brute,
Your new laugh sounds all tuberculosish when I read it. It's as if you just ate a really hot pepper.
Try the old: "HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA" or maybe "HEHEHHEHE" or if you feel the need, my special "BWHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHHA!!!" or maybe Tacoma's evil "MOHAHHAHAH!".
Thanks for playing.

If I had a mind too.....I wouldn't want to be like you......
And if I had time too......I wouldn't wanna talk to you......
I don't care what ya do......I wouldn't want to be like you.....

(Thanks AP!!)
I can't believe none of you mentioned fuel filters especially with the crud they call fuel now days.
Spares? That takes all the fun out of it. Does a motorcycle count as a spare?
motorcycles are a necessity! Plenty of moneyfor the rotten fuel they keep over charging all of us for. we all need to write the president and complain about the high prices of gas. Im not bringing nothin for the 725 but gas. If anything breaks brian can tow me back to camp.
Don't they say to bring anything that you have already replaced once? For me, that's the following:
AMC 360 motor
TH400 transmission
brakes
fuel filters
radiator hoses
spare ECM if you go swimming (I have TBI)
radiator
power steering unit and hoses
alternator
front and rear driveshafts
Sheesh, I mightaswell tow an entire truck beind me. <g>
