well over 10000, less than 20000, excluding my time
$6342.00 I just figured all the invoices and i thought it was around 4000
Memory brings me pretty close to 7000 without working at it very hard. Tell me again why I thought I had to have one? 2850 on the second one. Tell me again why I had to have two!
Not done yet but it is getting high already.
I put all the reciepts on my CJ5 into an excel spreadsheet and like you I was very surprised at the total! I haven't done that on the M yet (kind of afraid to do it!), but I'd say including purchase price it's gotta be in the $7K to $8K range now. That includes the new set of tires I just got, but not my time.Quote:

I could build the same rig for 25 K now. Why would anyone ever do something like that I have no idea. And to think that it is totally obsolete now with all these rock buggies that are out there.
Besides the purchase price of $1000 I have a little over $100 bucks in mine, but then again I haven't done much but tune it up right now. My problem is time, which probably isn't a good excuse, but it's the only one I have.
purchase m725 off ebay - 900
shipping to omaha - 500
pain the wife is inflicting on me over it - priceless
if you count the junker donor truck (j10) - about $2000 and not running yet.

Is it not amazing the cost of our toys ! dont regret any of the money that ive invested , but that is the key work invested as im sure i will never get a return , but just think about all the looks we get ... PRICELESS!!! C
I'm only up to a little over $2,200 so far. I still need to finish my engine (1000-20000, lockers and lockouts (1000-1200), tires (300-1000) and so on. I have a list of part numbers and prices that I want to do that this morning totals $12,879 of money yet to be spent.
I'm afraid to add it up!
k
I, too, have saved all my reciepts...and am sorry every time I add them up.
Counting every bolt and tie-wrap I have about $9800 in it. That excludes the cost of the fire arms that I traded for my new Magical 427 Tall Deck.
Nor for the hurtful part- How much could you sell it for- realistically.
I think I could get $4500 for mine w/ the winch and all. That's an ad in the paper sale.
Depressing.

I love the M7xx trucks and think any amount of money spent whether large or small just goes to show how much we love these trucks and to us they are Priceless :D
$675 Purchase price
$100 extra motor
$150 other parts from AB + others
Not much invested yet but it ain't pretty!
The nickle and dime deal kills with these things. And the related purchases can suck too. I've spent $4500 on a burb dedicated tow rig $1600 on a trailer with a winch to load broken jeeps, 800 on a tube bender. This doesn't even count the 715 itself. :(
I have a tough time with the word "invest" as applied to this thread. "dumped down the drain" is more appropriate, yes?
Since there is no recouping on monies spent, it's not a succesfull investment, so we may as well eschew failure and admit squandering.
If you guys keep tweaking your trucks into sweet off road machines (please do), my stock M715 should bring buku bucks should I ever decide to sell since its going to be all stock and there are fewer and fewer out there.
Therefore it will indeed be an investment. Not why I'm in this though. I love my truck and most likely will never sell. Not unless I find out I'm a father or something....
all reciepts:
previous owner:
$950.00 purchase price
$12,000.00 drive train and mechanicals
me:
$6,000.00 purchase price
$1,000.00 shipping
$3,000.00 various parts/winch/bed bows etc.
only thing I'm lacking now is some minor dent removal and a paint job
wow, i dont feel as bad! yall are in heavy too!
And yet, for all of our spending, consider this: You buy a new Tahoe/Suburban/Expedition/F250 whatever...$30,000 - value drops every year, and there are tons of them on the road....now, drop $5000-10,000 into your trucks, have great trucks, and be the only one like it around......that's awesome!!

No matter what the price, the wife pain is always the most expensive...
My wife doesn't complain at all about any vehicle I buy. Of course I did have to buy her an Escalade to get her to stop whining :roll:Quote:

It has been my experience when doing any vehicle project, especially specialized or collector type rigs, that you will be money ahead to purchase the best condition vehicle you can afford at the time of original purchase. Subseqent work and parts seem to always exceed the replacement value.
Rollie
$1200 for my 715
$300 for donor wagoneer(power steering, brakes, seats, heater, hood)
$0 for the engine, tranny (i like that price!)
$150 for paint

ive put about 18k miles on the truck. @ 8mpg average and an average of 1.50 a gallon= $3,375 dollars for fuel alone...thats more than i payed for it!
Wow...I don't keep receipts just for this purpose. :) Under 10K, but that's ONLY because my acquisition cost was very minimal plus I've horse traded to a bunch of parts too.
both too much and not enuff at the same time
$2000 for 1969 M715,$450 transport Iowa -Texas,$350 misc. parts and it runs like a top! Still need New tires($1000),Locking Hubs($200),parts for straight through conversion($175 if I can ever get ahold of VPW?)...................it's a work in progress!
I payed &1900.00 for it.
Begged a bunch of parts for it ( Thanks B-)
The truck has still nickle and dimed me to death so far I have a little over $4000.00 in it all.
And it still looks like sh!t.

Rich, that's basically how I look at all vehicle purchases now. It's very unlikely I'll ever buy new again. Much more more cost effective to buy a good used car or truck now.Quote:

$1000 purchase price
$2000 parts and paint
$950 donor vehicle
$400 M105 trailer
One whole summer of labor and still not finished.
Total= $4350 and the coolest truck in town. :D
1967 m715 truck---$400
1978 j-20 parts truck---free
1980j-20 parts truck with good 360 engine--free

Replace 1 pair leaf springs on car trailer bent by exploding tire $85
for a grand total (so far) of $1985..significantly less that the aproximatly $25K I've spend building my Bronco over the last 12 years. Add to that the purchase of an F350 for 12K and a car trailer for $2400 to haul it with......
Much more will be spent as soon as I sell my Mustang and crotch rocket
it's all good..................

You guys are gonna laugh! Clean 67 M-715 Free, given to me by father in law. rebuilt 230 hunk of junk, about $3,000.00 worst investment. New kick panel, new top, currently undergoing engine change, about $1,000.00 other misc. add up to about $6,000.00 so far and still not finished, but when done it will be just the way I want it. My wife drives what I buy her and is happy, of course who wouldn't be happy driving a Jeep 92 cherokee, good wheeling rig, dependable o.k mileage, future project for me. Fisherman
