New to site.

I have been looking on your site for some time but never had a reason to sign up.... Just looking and playing with the idea of getting a M715 of my own.
Well I now have a reason to join. Bought a M715 the other day now just waiting to have it shipped. Bad time to get anything shipped this close to Christmas. Hope to have it home in the new year. Still trying to find a trucking company to pick it up.
Just wanted to say you have a great site and will be asking alot of questions from everyone real soon.

Welcome Andrew. Nice to see another Canadian M715 owner. There are about 5 of us in an around the Montreal area. Could you have found a truck any further away? LOL.

I snagged mine from Buffalo, Long Island, and Syracuse, NY.

Welcome I did about the same as u. Lurked a bit. I love this sight it's full of great people a few iv been lucky enough to talk to and get some parts from. One iv met so far many more to come I'm sure. And congrats all those looked like great trucks. Was going to get one myself but goofed and waited to long then when going to bid realized I forgot my log in info. Lol

No question is to dumb. We all learn from other peoples questions and answers. We all share a common link, and thats our trucks.

Welcome to the olive drab sickness.
When you give the info to the company that post the job to the carriers, be careful about using the military word. It scares off some haulers thinking that they are going to find a deuce and a half or worse when they arrive to pick it up.
The hauler may have to shuffle the truck around on the trailer and big and heavy scares away some carriers and raises bids on others.

I made sure I send pics of the Jeep to the broker who is trying to arrange shipping so they know what they are dealing with. I am giving it a week or 2 more then I will hooking up a trailer and going for a roadtrip. Only 27hrs straight driving, so Mapquest tells me. Hope to have it shipped is my 1st plan. Bad time of year to get drivers to do the trip.

Great to know, Thanks I just spoke with 1 of my friends here in town who hauls travel trailers back all the time and his uncle is going down that way in 2-3 weeks and said he would get it and drop in my dooryard. just have to see if that is too long for the site where it is sitting or if it must be moved ASAP? Sent an e-mail today waiting to hear back, much better than a 52 hour road trip in jan.

Sounds like you have the situation all under control. Getting the truck home will be a nice way to start off the new year.

I don't know about the on-line calculator kyken, but the girls that work for him sure are cute.

These places usually want you to pick the items up within a week or so. When I won a truck in Indiana, I had a tow company haul it from the auction site to their lot until I could get it.

BTW, the Federal Surplus Property site in Wisconsin usually auctions the vehicles in the winter, the guy I talked to there said the bees nests in all the vehicles are terrible to work around in the summer. The vehicles must sit on the lot at least 1 year until they can be auctioned off to the public. It is unbelieveable how many nests you will find when you get it.

I guess a dose of a good old Wisconsin cold wave makes those bees a thing of the past. Hard to believe bees could delay an auction, I learned something new today. Just where is the Federal Surplus Property site? It isn't Fort McCoy is it?

It is in Waunakee, about 10 miles north of Madison. They have all sorts of stuff there, alot of confiscated airport items, police siesures, etc. plus the yard of Fire Dept returns, Military stuff, Forestry, etc.

Believe me, they hardly can go into the yard in the summer and work with all the nests.

Looks amazingly similar to mine when I first got it! I think the door markings are even the same. I believe mine read:

I like the M38A1 with the tent trailer. That yours, by chance? (If so, I'll bet it's a '53!) ;)

Yes it is a 53 cnd model. Built by Ford Motor Co of Canada. That is why i bought the M 715 for a tow rig for my A1. I run my A1 down to Killington VT and Bethel ME for the Jeep Jamboree's the last few years. It is over 1000+ miles to Killington return with the tent trailer in tow. So I think the M715 will make a cool tow ring when I am done with it. Not plannig on leaving stock. Will replace the drivetrain much like I have done in the A1 to keep up with traffic.
I now know what they warned me about "the olive drab bug" I got bit.
As for the tent trailer it is a home grown idea that my good friend came up with. I built the frame work in an afternoon and 2 tent sections from the local Surplus store for 40 bucks and called in another favor from a good friend that can sew and It turned out great . I get alot of coments on it and I have used it and works great.

Over the years I have seen a few of these ex. forestry trucks, and they all look to be painted the same. I wonder if they bought a bunch of trucks at one time and did them all up. Notice the black headlight backgrounds, the roll bars are the same. Logo on the doors the same.

I've seen a lot of similar yellow forestry trucks, but never one quite the same (other than a couple others, such as Saxon's, both of which I know came from the same auction as mine).

I'd like to see the vehicle number markings on the front edge of the hood, tailgate, as well as the markings on the door.

Notice this one is painted the same, black bumper, brush guard, turn signal plates, wheels. Roll bar is same as well. Doesn't have the same door markings.

Yep. Indeed it does look like they were all from the same shop. Cool! I finally found my (ex)truck's family!

Hello 1953, and all. I also got one of the yellow 715s out of Wis. Mine was the one with the spare tire and the 100 amp alt setup.. It runs and its got a knock coming from the bell housing. I pulled the inspection cover and the fly wheel wobbles. I can see that one flywheel to crank bolt is missing and assume others are loose. I orderd a set of bolts from Memphis equipment today. I will tear it down on Sunday. My friend named the truck THE UGLY YELLOW DUCK.. Seems fitting. It is yellow and its ugly. Totaly rust free and its perfect for us. Looks like more fun. Joe

In my glove box was the build sheet/ manual from the Montana DNR it lists all the changes done to the truck and has the blueprints for the hardtop build and the rollbar .. I can scan and post the 30 page manual . It also lists part numbers ect. It was a great find. Joe

Hope my truck is in as good shape as yours? Will find out soon, got a call last night and found a truck to pick-up the M and bring her to Maine. Should have her by the 1st of next week.
