Project "iron mule"
i just figure i do a thread on my truck "iron mule" ... i traded it my 68 bronco for it from lanny and now has become my new toy.... pretty much i painted it green and put some camo on it .. did a little brake work and some opens headers and just started doing a spring over.. i've done the back shackle flip and im waiting on spring perches to arrive.....also built a roll cage and will be putting 44" swampers on the truck as well
here are some pics

-

i think im gonna make my own wheels i should have some pics up later to explain ...also i was wondering why do people who do spring overs on m715 take two leaf springs out of the spring packs????? anyone?
thanks
-
People who do, and dont do, spring overs take leaves out to soften the ride. Stock springs are stiff little monsters.
-
so here are some pics of the spring over so far... the perches i got are 7" long to help prevent axle wrap.. i got them from .m.o.r.e. but i also see im gonna have to notch out the cross member for the driveshaft and also move my steering link rods etc. on top of the knuckles

and i have 2 of these wheel plates with the right bolt patteren in them and i have a friend who is going to make me 2 more...... i can save this patteren if anyone else would like to try what im doing and mine friend could make them for you as well not sure on price yet....... but if you have the correct wheel the insert fits right at 4.5" backspacing on the back of the rim. getting them centered will be the tricky part...

looks good... keep us posted! by the way, what size swampers were you running before you started the spring over? i would go spring over in a heartbeat if the rest of my truck wasn't all stock and the laws up here weren't so viscious against anyone trying to have some fun!
-
the tires in the pics are 38" tsl but im gonna run some 44" boggers.....just finish getting the front done minus the steering looks like the front is 2" higher than the back so im gonna have to flip the front spring mount on the rear....eehhhh no fun .. i could run a 2" block but it looks like the pinion angle would still be in a negetive position
-
For your steering - I have read elswhere on the Zone that for the flip, you can get new tie rod ends (or whatever they're called in this setup) that are larger than stock, along with a tool from NAPA to re-taper the other direction (and enlargen) the holes they go into. Did that make sense? I'm a little overtired.
-
yeah thanks... i been trying to find a reamer localy but i did'nt try napa.. now i know where to go thanks again
-
i know when i did 1-ton steering on my XJ it came with a reamer direct from snap-on. if you don't find anything local, i know they have 'em.
-
-
Needs bigger tires :D
Looking good!
-
NEED HELP!!!!!! on the front rear shackle flip.....i got the for bolt studs out and the big stud on the back torched out but i can't get the brakets to come off of the frame.. i don't see any welds on the brackets anywhere what am i missing??????? anyone?
-
GOT IT!!! p.s. this blows :D
-
so here are some pics of the front rear shackle flip... i torched one side no fun and i used a cut off wheel on the other, i suggest using the cut-off wheel. but the sucky part is after doing the flip and all the work i have in it i still 1" short in the rear.....guess i'll have to make some longer shackles or something but the pinion angle is back where it is supposed to be....

-
Don't sell! you'll regret it
-
ha i think i might be moving to texas so it can't come with me.. i'll let the whole truck go with the 44" swampers and spare parts for $4000.... it has headers and seats and a cage now and some other stuff
-
Man that is awful...try to figure out how to take her with you?
RM
-
OK, the stock springs are hard and rugged. However, you learn to love them with 2 tons of load on the truck and some spring travel left.
If you grease the springs (for example spray some ATF between the lays) in unloaded position (axles hanging free to blow the ATF in) you will notice that the truck can also have a very smooth ride, if your shocks are still ok.

my camera crapped out on me but heres an update...... did the wheel cylinders on the truck still had problems getting it truck to stop and figuered out the rod to the master cylinder was not long enough causing me to have to double pump the pedal.... so extended that and bam stop better than any truck i've own plus its on 44's... also the fuel hose problem... i found this place "central states hose inc." they can make what ever you want so i got that solve..... next i will be repairing the floor boards and making rocker guards...... i hope to have another camera soon and will post pics of my progress..........:D
