fullsize Jeeps basically used GM columns. They will fit but you need to hack the dash a bit, and come up with a new mounting scheme. I'll be using the complete FSJ mounts and pedals, and column. The mounting angles are different at the column. But it's not a huge engineering issue.
40 Grit has some pics of how he did his.

Used a tilt column from a 76 C-10 chevy pick up . Wasn't to bad getting it in , did not have to modify dash .Had to cut off factory mounts from the column . Was able to hook up the column shifter for the automatic , neutral safety switch and back up lights , since this is a daily driver .

I know THAT lol...
I am just curious because he said no mods, and my 78 Cherokee column, which is the same size, won't fit in the skinny dash cutout. It's thicker around than the stocker.

Actually it's a M725 , but I figure the hole is the same . It fit in the floor board hole with no problem , didn't look like it was cut up before , still had original column in it . Upper mast mounting by dash panel was a little tight , if I remember right , I shimmed out the upper bracket some . I did not use the column ignition circuit so I just cut off the actuator rod from key rack to ignition switch which would have been a problem for clearance . Key only unlocks the steering wheel now . Did not have to notch out the dash panel , had good clearance .

Chevy vans with the ign key on the dash have skinny columns, and they were made this way until 82.

So is the fat part of the column outside of the dash then??? on a 725 there might be room for that... in my 715 there is no way to do that and be able to fit between the wheel and the seat LOL

Fat part is just clear of the dash , I did cut off the original lower mounting plate so I could adjust column up & down to clear dash . Was unable to use original steering wheel , column now has a smaller diameter wheel on it which gives plenty of room to get in & out .

aaaahhh
that explains it all. I have to have the fat part in the dash or I will be completely smushed in there!!

Just took some measurements . From dash panel to back wall is 42.5 " , from dash straight out to end of column [not counting the steering wheel] is 8.5" . Steering wheel is a 14" diameter , when in straight position on column it's 4" past the front edge of seat .
