I am committed to using a divorced 205 to a 2wd turbo400. The fellow I bought the tranny off of sent me a tranny that would bolt directly to a NP205. He said he will send me the housing to put on the end so the th400 will accept a yoke. I have the deuce drive shafts which has the 1410 yokes. One of the deuce shafts has real large yokes which I will use for the rear.

I was planning on cutting one of the deuce shafts down which has the 1410 yokes, to run in between the 205 and th400.

This will make it a 1410 at the T-case and tranny.

The fellow said he didnt know if he had any 1410 yokes, he did say he had 1530, however that will not work with my shafts.


Question

1) Is there a bolt on 1410 yoke made for the TH400?

2) should I use a slip joint in the jack shaft?

3) Should I use some other setup that I am not aware of at the th400?

2. No. Nothing's moving forward and back.

3. Probably: unless you got the sh*tty long 32spl 4wd version of the TH400, the shaft will be way too short to use a 2wd tailhousing. I just went out and looked at my 2wd and 4wd trannies: the 4wd one has a VERY short 32spl output shaft for the 203, as does the one for the 205. The 2wd 400's I have have much longer shafts.
I would say you are going to need a new output shaft and a few phone calls. Not a big deal.

Yep, the transmission output shaft for a 2wd and a 4wd are different.

And just in case you didn't know, output shaft change requires complete transmission disassembly.

there are some subassemblies but it's still kind of a job. Got friends that work at tranny shops?

that would depend on how both the tranny and the 205 are mounted..there could be a need for the driveshaft to extend/retract a little due to torque moving one of the 2 housings ( or both) along with making it super easy to install without having to remove tranny or 205 to put jackshaft in...

yeah, a little slip would sure make it easier to install. Good catch LOL

Torque won't move the housings back and forth though....

It can change the center to center distance between the yokes, more so with a flexy frame or real soft mounts.

not back and forth, but torque up and away from "unloaded" position, which effectively makes the shaft longer ( not by very much, but more than a non-slip could handle)

If your engine doesn't have enough torque to move rubber mounts, you need to scrap that puppy..LOL

Uh, guys, if he's using a 2wd automatic transmission then the trand yoke is already a slip - just use a solid jackshaft but make sure the trans yoke is out a little (so if you flex you aren't trying to shove it thru the trans tailhousing.

Not necessarily, Ronneroo. There are bolt on yokes too. The Buick deals in the garage ARE both slipyoke though.

Tacoma, would you have a chance to take a pic and post the buick slip yoke setup.

it just looks like a normal slipyoke... big long tailhousing.

On What Taco? Every 2wd GM or Ford trans I've ever played with had slip yokes.

MOST 3/4 TON and larger gm 400 turbos have bolt on yokes

Ak that explains it - the only reason I'd mess with a GM truck is if it had 4wd, or if it was free, or I traded for it, or...

OK, I guess I've just never messed with a 3/4t 2wd chebby.

Trucks were bolt on yokes, cars were slip yokes. Usally when I am using a 400 short shaft in a 715 i use a short slip yoke, or even the bolt on style yoke, dont matter, just take the bolt out and let it slip, then I use the approiate C.V. housing to house 2 ujoints. I use no tube at all, and it sets your length very good with a bigblock anyway.

Could you post your PH# or PM it to me so I can talk to you. I have called 4 tranny/driveshaft companies and none of them I am confident in their advice.

Yes, The shaft sticks out from the Th400 housing about 4.5" on my tranny setup for a 205.

I took the yoke off my 2wd th400 that came out of a 1ton truck and the shaft also looks to be 4.5". (Just have to measure over the the tail shaft housing)

I have been informed there are no 1410 bolt on yokes. So I am going with a 1410 slip yoke and getting the tailshaft housing section for the th400 built for the 205.

theres alot of companys that already buld the th400 to np205 adapters also there is stock gm ones on ebay all the time.
