I have a '67 715 in which the headlights will only stay on for 3 minutes. Then what I would call a breaker heats up, cuts the power, and the headlights go out. After a few mintues the headlights will work again. Does anyone know where I can find this breaker to replace it with a fuse and how it can be identified where it's at? Or is it some other problem? I don't want to think it's the wiring harness.

In short, take the switch apart, and sand the contacts of the breaker clean. If you're using 12V lights, or oversize bulbs, you can replace it with a larger breaker...

replace the 3-lever switch. The circuit breaker is inside the switch.

Did you put any more bulbs into the circuit, maybe some halogen lamps? Excess current draw can open the breaker. It is just doing its job if so.Quote:

I have the same problem with the internal breaker tripping. LED headlights will give both better lighting and lower current draws, fixing two problems in one shot :)
Breaker tripping means change switch...just going to LED lights might temporarily stop or mask the problem...but it needs a new switch...last thing you want is the dreaded wiring fire...a whole new harness is a much bigger job than a new switch...
If one goes from 24V to 12V, you are doubling the current through the switch.Quote:
