M724/6217 Picture post
I had the opportunity to see an M724 in great condition at the Iola Military show and it was for sale...the owner allowed me to go all over it, open everything and crawl under and take pics. I have never seen one so nice before...had to take a ton of pics...this will take a few posts to get them all in.

I can contact the owner if anyone is interested in this..it had an asking price of $8500 at the show...and as you can see...it is in really nice shape.

You mis-titled this Jon. It is a M724/6217. Early model as evidenced by the removable rear roof, axle disengagement levers, and welder location in the middle compartment.
It's a really nice example.

Yea that thing's great! Who did the install of the maintenance bed on the cab & chassis after it left the assembly line? All that monkey motion stuff looks like very low production shop-fab grade.

It is a pretty rough finish. I think the problem was that the np200 doesn't have a pto port. My 724/6217 with the np205 doesn't have all the "monkey motion" stuff.
p.s. I like that term "monkey motion". Can I use it freely. I hope it's not copyrighted or something...
-
Nah it's cool - I swiped it from someone else, kinda like freeware phrases or something

Thanks Kwai...changed it up.
It is a nice truck...so is the current owner...I was tryng to take a pic through the window and he opened the door and said do anything you like, take all the pics you want.
He was gone before I could thank him...
-
Cool truck. I had an opprtunity to buy one a couple of years ago. Now I'm sorry I didn't.
-
If he said do anything you like how come its not in your driveway now. Nice pictures, everytime I see something like this I get an urge to drag home some more OD vehicles (running or not, usually not). I will go talk to my wife and she will slap the urge right out of me.
-
Did anyone notice the parking brake drum to generator's driveline yoke? Thru bolted U-joint retaining caps. Never seen that before!!
-
Ddnt notice it till you mentioned it now...the one on the front side of the big pulley with the belts has the same thing...
-
Yeah, that was a nice truck, but I ended up buying the M715 a few rows over instead. Would have seriously went after this one for $6000, but thought it would have been an insult to ask $2500 off the asking price.
Didn't this truck have like less than 2000 miles on it?

I believe you are right...I do remember it being low but cant put a number on it...
I was so happy the owner, when I asked if I could take pics, told me to take all I wanted and open whatever I wanted to do so...who knows I may never see another so nice...
-
Is this truck still for sale?
-
I know the person who was selling it when I saw it did sell it...since then, I do not know.
-
-
I was later sold at auction, it sold for a couple dollars over $4000
Two years ago, 2008.

Bump, Cause its freaking cool !
-
Thanks for the bump. I have not seen so many detailed pictures of the M724. It confirms that my truck did start life as an M724 and maybe that is why the data plate was missing. But the serial number on the title fits nicely into the sequence of an M724. My truck has the original type of air filter and no carburetor spacer with the governor. There is no frame number in the usual place on the right front frame horn. I can not get to the rear frame because a plate is welded on top of it for a goose neck trailer ball ... which is still there! One day, I will grind off all of that rubbish.
- I had the rear brake locking solenoid which I removed because it caused problems, not to mention that it was not necessary to be there.
- I have a patch in the floor where the engage/disengage handle was.
- The governor was mounted on the left side inner fender and I removed it.
- My truck has a welder instructions plate on the dashboard.
Slowly converting it to an M715. When I finally get moved to Florida and sell this house (and get out of debt!!!) I will be looking for another good bed since mine has a lot of holes in it due to fertilizer being stored in it uncovered and in the rain!
Again, Thanks!

The smaller pulley is the drive for the under hood mounted engine governor.

Yep, No problemo Don.
I saw this truck looking for something else... and felt just like that scene in the Terminator movie, when Arnold picked up the Vulcan Cannon in the underground desert armory...
"It's definitely You" said John Conner...
Arnold just grins...
I have an entirely new respect and want for these M 724 trucks now...
