Sweet!!
Yep, sounds like the 6.2 in my '86 Chevy. Good Job!
now im having a problem....
even in the vid you can see its running rough... well, im not positive, but im scared that i might have a bad injecter... i might have maby 30 min run time of this motor so far, and its still running rough. ive tryed adjusting timing, and it didnt help...
but what i dont understand (im not a expert) but it idels rough, but even with a slight little bit of throttle it smooths out. so im not shure what it is, but we might be getting another 6.2 for parts, so ill go through injecters...
will the old school trick of writing on the exhaust manifolds with a crayon work with a 6.2?
we do it on tractors to find the dead cyl. because if the cyl are operating they produce heat thus melts the crayon, but the dead cyl's wont...will this work with a 6.2? i might try it anywase. but any tips on how to find which one is not firing?
Hey Stamp,
Its Alive! Looking good. You are making a heluvalot more progress than I am. One of those infrared pyrometers would work good for checking this out. A buddy has one that I borrow from time to time. They are pricey buy I have seen some down to around $50. They are great for checking out problems like you suspect as well as checking cooling systems, catalytic operation, and even to see if your waffles are done in the morning. Just point and shoot and it reads the temp. Other than that bouncing around a known good injector will work. Good luck, keep the pics coming. J.D.
Try feeling the exhaust manifolds with your hand not too long after you start it. Thats what my gramps does. I've also heard of old timers spitting on the manifolds to see which cylinder is hotter or colder than the others. A heat gun is nice but does cost. Your hand will be able to feel any big difference. Try running some diesel treatment thru system before you start replacing injectors and pump. I use Stanadyne at my work and you would be amazed at what it can do. If you do have a bad injector replace all of them at once. Will save you mucho headaches and time. I wrench for a living and have done injector replacement a few times on the 6.2 in civilian life and as a jarhead. I'm working on swapping a 6.5 turbo engine into mine or I have a 5.9 cummins. Decisions. Nice job on yours.
thanks. its running good now, it was probly air in the system and it aventually worked it out. i now have a problem with one of my lifters. its starting to bottom out or something, i think im going to change the oil and try that, the oils about 10 years old haha. so that probly most of the problem.
ill post a new vid soon... i got the exhaust done yesterday...
hows it goin J dogg... hows your truck goin
heres the new vid, exhaust done, radiator in, water pump goin, ideling better...

more questions...
i need everything for a manual set up, i have nothing of a clutch
i need clutch kit, fly wheel
i had the parts priced out at autozone, for a duralast HD clutch, its $274 and the flywheel with core is $59, w/o core its $130
is their better ones cheaper?
the clutch has a 1 year warrente
Do you already have a flywheel? If so then any good machine shop can resurface it for less than 59 dollars. That price for the clutch kit and flywheel doesn't seem that bad but then if you have no money its a lot.
i dont have any manual ones... i have a 350 manual one, but i heared that it wont work.
well, its running good now... heres a vid, i have another coming up...
i got it to move... no breaks or steering, but it moved, and i also hit the aircompressor behind me.... thing has good torque... didnt lug down or anything
well anywase heres the first vid of it running, ill post the other one tomarrow.

That thing sounds great, foodstamp! You've got to be pretty much tickled several shades of pink now!
haha... its alwase good to drive it the first time... speking of that, i need drive lines, but i noticed something, the yoke on my axles are super small compared to the ones compared to my transfer case... now can i change the yokes on my axles to a bigger one, or do i have to mix match my drivelines
i think i figured something out... never noticed it befor, but my truck had a military radio in it... all the bolt holes on the side of the bed... the grommets in the bed and cab...
would this mean anything like maybe it was in the war at one point in time?
Don't let this thread die, foodstamp!
You know what....? It just dawned on me as I dug this old thread out, that I clean forgot to bring the battery box half down to you. Dang, I'm sorry, dude!
But Hammer loaned me his welder, so I will have to be back down here in a couple months. Can you hang tight that long? I promise I won't forget again....
yes, its no problem, i also have that door too if you know any one that wants it, i also have a front windshild frame. figured that these parts can be put to better use. would their be any way to get a diagram for the front brush guard? i need to make one of those. along with fender flaires... do you still have my address?
ive been meaning to post update pics

that hydro clutch looks familiar
looking good
Ryan
i got all the parts out of a chevy truck, well sort of, the hydro brakes came out of the truck i pulled the motor out of, and the hydro clutch i got in a trade with the rest of the clutch kit. works good, but man its pretty stiff, feels like a racing clutch.
turned up the injecter pump last night. i also finally put the top bolt in the steering box, pain in the butt, i ended up useing a socket that has a bolt shape on the end and a ratchet wrench.
i need to find some 6.5 turbo pics in these truck. the turbo wont clear the fender well.

im ordering paint tomorrow. the only cosmetics i need to do it the rocker, and i might order that tomorrow too. i also need to get a tailgate and flaires. but besides that. i think it might be getting close to done.
Pretty :)
getting close to driving:D
i ordered a rocker. and two gallons of paint. i ordered gillespie's 30277 camo sand. and 30118 camo field drab brown. the both of those including shipping/hazmat came out to $103.
parts and paint should be in by friday
now all i need is the flaires, tail gate, and brush guard.
...and a battery box half?
Very nicely done, man!
the battery box is a whole diferent monster:D. my idae for the battery box is im going to line it with undercoating on the inside, drill a hole in the bottom and put a valve in to make it into a ice box:cool: the valve will let the melted water drain out, and ill be able to use it for more than a ice chest. this might be a cool camping rig. i also plan on making a canvas cover for the bed, so i can put a matress in the back, and for cold nights i think i might rig up a wood burning stove. the last time i went caming in tahoe the tent i was in held 10 blow up beds and had a wood burning stove it was the coolest tent ive seen.
I have a couple Fisherman fabbed brush guards left if your interested. Things are coming together nicely. Keep the pictures coming.
ok, i might do that. can you pm me some pics. i kind of have to play with my money and see what i can do. im still trying to buy tires from 100dollarman.
sweet rig, alot of hard work there, what did you use for the clutch linkage?
militarytrux. i just seen your thread. i used the gm hydrolic clutch. workes great so far. it is a little stiff. but its great. if their is no pics of the set up on this thread ill add them.
with the gm hydro clutch it required a new clutch bell housing. im not sure if theirs a after market style out their. but i went and used all gm parts.
well i did some painting. the dang rocker pannel is still in transit. still in washington, says the weather is holding it back and wont be in till the 12th! i ordered this part last month! anyways heres a little pic

Don't know if it was already brought up or not, but most tractor engines are designed to run at a certain RPM and that is where they make all their power and torque, that's why the big tractors have 8-18 gears. Unless you can get all those gears I imagine that they wouldn't make good engines for a truck.
I'm no tractor expert, but I would guess the gearing on a big tractor is more for being able to get huge payloads going rather than because of motor power curves. Ever seen a tractor towing multiple huge trailers of hay through a field? The weight plus rolling resistance in the dirt = lots of gears needed, no?
doesn't it also make sense if they had all the gears to keep the engine at its sweet point so it could pull all that weight and to overcome the rolling resistance?
please note the time at which i wrote that. i rest my case. :)
I like the two color Desert camo, Stampy! Looks cool. I think that't what I am going to do with my Deuce....
Look'n Good!!!
thanks, well we are finally done moving, sort of.... but close to done. still getting settled in. my rocker pannel finally came in last week. and now i need to go to a body shop and get a spot weld drill, its like a mini sized hole saw. i started drilling the welds out, and the bit broke, so i have to get some more. man i dont know about your guys trucks, but wow, this thing has a TON of welds. i counted 10 just where the cab curves in the back for the door.
get a set of roto-broaches. they are called spot weld cutters too. i would also reccomend a 1/8 inch pilot hole for each spot weld. makes it alot easier.
ryan
ok, ill take a look! can i find this at napa? ill try that out... i cant remember what ive been using, but its a bit with a spring loaded sentering pin and has a small circular blade that screws on, ill try and find it tomorrow. works great except for the blades breaking ha. looks just like a very small hole saw.
