well, now that we moved into a new shop i can get some workdone. i fixed the floor board, the fender well, hydro brakes, and tomarrow im hopefully getting a 6.2
next i need to make some new shock mounts, im going to try and make duel shock hoops for it.
for the paint i used bondo undercoating, the stuff is sweet except the fact that it runs really easy.
heres some pics

ill take some pics of the doner truck tomarrow...its at my friends farm, and ive checked it out twice already, and the motor looks brand new.
i guess the story on it was he got it at a junk yard, it was in their becouse of a blow tranny and a leaky radiator hose. so he put a new tranny in it, and fixed it. and its been sitting since then in their (non public srcrap yard) $350
Dual shock hoops??? Please, resist the urge for having a large bank of shocks, its a waste of time and money if you are going to stay with the stock springs. The stock springs are SO stiff, that shocks really aren't even needed, or at least nothing fancy, and certainly not twin shocks per tire. Go ahead if you really really gotta have a ton of shocks, but in my opinion money and time could be better spent elsewhere.
ya, ok ill do one then, i still have to make new shock mounts though otherwise the shock hits my upper u bolt plate.
Lookin good Stampy keep the pics coming
well good news, and bad news, i got my truck with the 6.2....but some one stoll the HB....and the injecter pump might be bad. its getting fuel up to the water seperator, and out, so tomarrow im going to take off the intake and check out the line going to the pump becouse its not getting fuel too the pump.
other wise that its good, glow plugs work right, and it looks ok
heres the doner truck, i was going to get some more pics today, but we have a storm going on....hey jay dog, is the storm down their too?
anywase, heres 2 pics i have of the truck...the motor is now out, and on a running engin stand i made last night.
for anyone who has a 6.2 in your 715, or know how to.....how do i wire this up, it was a mess of wires, i saved all the ones goint to the motor and to the cab, i also snagged the glow plug light thats going in the 715.
but ya, can you guys help me wire this?

The storm hit here starting about 11 am. They're expecting more rain in 24 hours then the Eastern Sierra got all last year, up to 10' of snow a little North of here, 150 mph winds on the ridges, extreme blizzard conditions, avalanches, etc.
Uh, power to the fuel solenoid at the injector pump, power to the starter, VOILA! Oh yea, power the glow plugs for 10 seconds or so first.
Chris
....unless the engine's already warm, eh?
I guess we're supposed to get hit with the top (cold) half of the same storm system, bringing more "low-land" snowfall this weekend in the Seattle area. We usually get hit a little harder, getting snow even if there's no snow in the "low-lands." Still a little here that hasn't melted. Barely....
Too bad this storm's swirling out of the south, keeping things pretty warm here. We need a good arctic blast to cool it off a bit first. I wish it would snow here in the valley!
I drove up to about the 6000' level at the base of the Sierra and it was just raining sideways, blowing about 40 mph trying to push me off the road. I was afraid of running out of fuel and didn't want to have to do the whole pump reprime thing in this weather (plus I got that pleasure last week on the side of the 23 freeway in 1000 Oaks at 9pm).
Chris
Eh storm hit here couple hours ago... its not bad... just alot of rain, i dont mind it, i just hope it doesnt get to crazy out here.
High winds here tonight. Power went out for two hours earlier this evening. From the sound of the wind outside, I'd be surprised if it doesn't go out again tonight.
ya, in sac they had about 10 big rigs flip over on the cosway, its crazy, i have a bunch of pictures if you guuys want to see them, i have some cool ones of a row of electrical poles laying on their sides. it was prety wet out here.
Thats intense... hope everyone is safe for the night. Its starting to rain harder and harder out hear its pretty sweet... cant wait till tomorrow theres a part of this street that floods and everyone gets stuck... im feelin an excuse to pull the 715 out.. if i doo i will be sure to take pics :D
oh, i forgot to add, you wouldent be able to help with a diagram, or a detaild instruction, becouse theirs the glow plug controler or what ever that is mounted in the back and it has the plug that gues in the back with about 5 wires. my guess is that the plug is going to the glow plug light in the cab, and ignition right? then you have a hot on the controler block, then the other stud breaks up into 8, and goes to each glow plug?
but which wire is which
and then i can controll the pump off of a toggle switch right?
get-r-done superfreak
hey, also since were on the rain subject as well. how in the heck do you get these soft tops water proof....about all i got was purifyed water
Not sure, i have a fiberglass top... someone will post up... but in the meantime ... :google:
I posted this in 1999:
I used to be able to get Preservo here, no longer on that either. My local canvas shop now sells "Rain Check" and "Weather Shield" to treat canvas. They said that the "Weather Shield" is the more toxic of the 2 and is not recommended for use when you are going to be under the canvas for extended periods. The "Rain Check" was the choice to take. In one gallon size they wanted $17.30 for the "Rain Check" and $17.50 for the other.
I'm sure the price has gone up since....
the Preservo was GREAT stuff...I have a gallon of it left and NO I'm not selling it.
Canvak.

Here's a review from that site too:

"I restore and rebuild military combat equipment as a hobby and side business. I have used Canvak for a variety of needs, and I would have to give this stuff a definite thumb up. I used to get Canvak on the surplus market when they still used a lot of canvas truck bed covers, I had a hard time getting it until I found Cabelas handled it, and at a fair price which surprised me. Cabelas Rocks!
I have used it on military canvas truck seats, truck soft tops on military equipment covers and jeeps. Canvak seems to soften shrinking canvas and restore it to like new condition. You would not be able to tell an old canvas seat cover from a new one once you apply Canvak.
Most recently I sprayed a Swiss army brand vinyl tent with it and it work out unbelievably well. (I tried a small spot before I sprayed the whole tent.) I have used other products in the past that are silicone based. Canvak has with no contest proven to be the ultimate in water protection and durability, the silicone stuff just doesnt hold up. I have found the best way to apply Canvak is with a pump up weed sprayer. If you put it on a real fine mist it will apply the stuff about like a paint gun."
I have heard that Canvak leaves the canvas kind of greasy...anyone know if that is true or false?
I'm not familiar with the GM diesel specifically but you have Bosch injectors so I'm assuming the rest is Bosch as well.
The pump probably has a one-wire solenoid on it. Power to this will "turn on" the fuel, switched however you choose.
The glow plug controller sounds like a relay, timed in one way or another to shut off after 15 seconds or so, sooner if the engine is warm. You probably have a small gage control wire, small gage water temp sensor feed wire, small gage ground, large gage bat+ input, large gage bat+ output to the glow plugs. Power the large gage bat+ output wire (between relay and plugs) to the glow plugs for about 10 seconds just before you're ready to start the engine.
This is all off the top of my head, based on what I know about the standard Bosch mechanical IDI system.
If the pump has lost it's prime, you're in for some extra work but not difficult.
Chris
ya, the pump is syadine, or something like that.
Hey Stamp,
It didnt start raining till night fall last night. Hardly much rain. Its dry here now...just alot of clouds. This was supposed to be one helluva storm starting on thursday and lasting through the weekend. But as usual its about gone with not much rain. My biggest problem is that apperently a kid on my block got the ole' red rider b.b. gun for Christmas and has been practicing on vehicle windows around the block since Christmas day. I guess he knows better than to shoot at my Jeeps but the Pontiac wasnt so lucky. Busted drivers window and the rain got in. Gotta repair it today. I keep hearing in my head the classic saying "you'll shoot your eye out";) Talk to you later, Jay.
ha, that sucks!
its been raining here prety hard for 2 days now. its prety crazy, i timed it right thoug becouse the day befor it rained i got the doner truck with the 6.2, and had the motor pulled befor it started raining:happy10:
your rain turned into about 12 inches of white stuff here. its still coming, and i heard that the next storm is supposed to drop another 10 inches....
left us without power for about 16 hours
Ryan
ya, i bet pg&e is having a fun time
hey, im running into a problem.... now im getting rid of the body lift, i think im going to use about a 1 or 2 inch.... but right now i am having a problem with the pannels lining up. my hood needs to move over about 1 inch to the driver side, the cab needs to move twords the passenger side, the grill...god dosent even know what to do with the grill... has anyone else had this problem, the hood and cab look great, but it needs to move, so its like idk ha...
this narrows it all down I AM GOING CRAZY, this truck has me beat. i need to get a camera to show you guys this...
Due to this being a technical board, it would serve the site well if the posts remain technical and not BS. As you are experiencing problems, you'll be better served if members can rely on tech posts being submitted when reviewing this thread. This is a helpful suggestion.
While it's ultimately up to the Administrators, we've been giving foodstamp a bit of extra slack when it comes to what is posted here in his very own, multi-topic thread. But yes, generally we try to keep BS out of the tech forums.
the admins are freakin sweet!
well i meant by that post to be as a question, i asked if any one had ran into this problem and might have some tips.
i got some new pics, ill post them soon, i have those motor mounts, and tranny mounts.
heres some progress........what do you think about my welds?

im stuck on 2 things right now...
1. drive lines. i have shafts that i can shorten... but how should i do this, do i set it so that the yoke is in a 50% extention... i dont know if im saying this right, but the slide joint (i think) is 50% in 50% out. so when my axle cycles up and down the drive shaft dosent bottom out
2. seats... foam is spendy! should i cut up the seat in my chevy doner truck... i think we have a electric turky carver... and the foam is their and free, or should i just go buy some foam?
you will want to set the slip in the d-shaft to match the travel in your suspension. i.e. if you have 10 inches of total travel in the suspension, 6 inches of downtravel and 4 of up, then you will want 40% of the slip to be showing when you are at ride height. but you need to have plenty of spline engagment at the end of the downtravel. also you don't want to bottom the slip out either
Ryan
LOOKING GREAT FOODSTAMP~!! Do your drivelines LAST. Get the rig done and at the weight you will be running. Put the junk in the rig you will always have in it and measure it then. Keep on truckin...:D:D:D
