Looks good David. I just bought my second 715 and may go for a full restoration. Hunting down the parts can be tough though. I see your in Newport News Va. I'm in Charlottesville! I heard there was a warehouse down that way on a base that had tons of military truck parts. Do you know anything about this mysterious warehouse?
Never heard of the so called mysterious warehouse. Sorry. There is quite a repository of old things out at Cheatham Annex.... every now and then, great and crazy things come out of Cheatham... I got my old R-390A ham radio CIA/US Navy radio from there back in the day but nothing mind blowing has come out of there for years as far as I know. But, people always talk about old 1940's WLA Harley Davidsons and stuff they've "seen" out there in crates so who knows.

Well, we started on removing the dents out of the double wall cab cowling area tonight. Heat up cherry red and super quick quench cool using ice and frozen rags to pop and shrink...
It works but slow. Anything we can do to avoid slapping Bondo and sanding. We are trying so hard to have no body filler at all!

Rainy here in Newport News. At least it's warmed up and the heathen snow all died! (finally)
Last night was my "Friday Night". Spent it in the man cave garage/workshop crushing a case of beer and more Makers Mark than my body and soul needed :-) But also started working on War Pig's driveshafts. Finished the rear shaft today. Might get to the front shaft tonight if my hangover would ever go away (sucks getting old eh?).
Cleaned up the shaft. Degreased it, lightly sanded it and then acetoned the crap out of it. Washed it with POR-15 Prep wash and then applied POR-15 gray primer. Let sit all night (ok... try most of this morning. It was very late when I staggered into the house to sleep) and then primered with Rustoleum Red Lead Professional primer rattle can and then overcoated with Rustoleum Gloss Black Professional rattle can. Not a bad job if I say so myself.
Hope everyone is doing well and in good spirits and as usual hope I'm not flooding you all with boring useless stuff!

Hi everyone!
we loaded all the prepped bodywork onto my 5x8 utility trailer today and hauled it all off to the painter for sandblasting, prime and final paint. Amazing that everything fits on a utility trailer LOL!
The cab and everything forward of it left today. So looking forward to getting it done finally! Hopefully I'll have something that resembles a truck soon!

Body is still out for paint. Painter is a lot slower than I ever imagined. GGGrrrrrrrrr. But, we got the rear tail lights fit mounted and the new trailer plug socket fit mounted. I like them :-) Waiting on a new socket spring cover to arrive any day now.

I haven't quite figured out the license plate and plate light yet.
I thought of just doing a heavy duty magnet so I can easily remove the plate at shows and stuff and maybe a 6 volt lantern battery and some sort of small light just to appease the Great "Commiewealth" of Virginia.
I dunno yet. I figure the Mother of Invention will visit me when the time is ready. LOL!

I would put a Y connector into the rear parking wire, and run a short distance to the passenger side, either make a simple metal mount to match a couple of the stock bolt holes or drill new ones to mount the plate with a simple license plate light
I wouldn't do removable in case you forget it put it on, or turn on the light
You might not need a plate. I know some states let you run your truck with just your hood numbers. I am pretty sure Texas is one of them. I am sure someone will chime in with the info.

Hi everyone! A couple of pictures of War Pig's cab tub today after sandblasting. About 90 percent of the body work is blasted now. Looking at epoxy primer next Monday maybe. Bed and tailgate will have to come later after my checkbook fattens up again after this milestone is complete. :-(

While waiting for the body to be finished up and with some help, we got the dash gauge cluster cleaned up painted and installed all new gauges, lights and a new speedometer. Still have to install the high beam indicator light. The new white decal labeling adds a little something extra.

Hi everyone. well the painter picked up the GCI 24087 paint yesterday. That is great news. He should be slinging the OD today. In the meantime, we are still working on everything else. Spent a couple of nights working on the RH side headlight bucket and both headlight trim rings. Tore the RH bucket apart, cleaned and painted everything and lubricated all the screws and springs so they hopefully won't rust and seize. We will start on the LH side today.

Yeah Dave ("Beast"). I saw his pix after I applied the decals. I'm not going to change it now though. Hopefully when people see the truck, they won't notice LOL!
That is some fantastic work, it's going to be a beautiful truck. Maybe some day I'll be able to take mine down all the way and refurb all of it.
On the plate(s).. I'm in TX and they want 2 plates. I found a flat spot on the back just inboard of the driver's side bumperette and mounted it there with a tag light over it. I haven't mounted the front plate yet.... If your ride is cool enough the cops will cut you some slack.
I heard there's a movement to drop the front plate requirement... save money on plate printing... maybe the cost of tag renewal would drop... NOT!
I did get an awful lot of looks from them though... don't know how much was from the lack of front plate... most was probably from the red light that was mounted on the hood. HIGHLY illegal in TX..
Von, Virginia has some real weird laws in regards to "historic" vehicles. But you are correct. It will be up to the individual "Peace Officer" if they want to mess with me or not. We'll see. Thanks for the real kind words though :-)

Hi everyone! Finally we are starting to see some 24087 OD Green pieces now.
a couple of runs but I'm not going to worry myself to death over it now.
I have a couple of more trips to make to pick up more. Inner fenders are done and look good. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them home.
For now here is what I picked up today. I still have to paint the NOS glove box door to match but the rattle can paint perfectly matched the "gunslingers" paint job on the big pieces. That was a worry I had.

One thing I figured out is that the rattle cans will shift color very slightly.... usually go darker, in a few weeks.
Dont know why, just noticed it, where I did some touchup, and it blended well a bit later.
USMC Forest Green 24052 is what I am using, but I bet the 24087 will also "blend" in a short time as well... a bit darker.
Ahhh to have a clean truck again.....

Good afternoon everyone!
First let me say THANK YOU to everyone for the kind words recently! Makes me feel good knowing that I'm doing ya' all right with my rebuild and as usual for answering my questions (IE- the foot starter switch this time).
Now with that out of the way, last night was fun. The Spring Crud laid me out flat out hard yesterday. I could hardly breathe. So Ed ( The Garage Elf ) and our friends Luke and Walt came over to play. They attacked the tailgate with gusto. A couple of more applications of their enthusiasm should give us a near brand new tailgate ready for paint. Major props to my next door old school style hot rod builder neighbor Bob for letting me "steal" his tool air off his commercial high volume compressor as mine would not keep up with the CFM required to run the high speed cut off wheel tool. I owe Bob a bottle of Eagle Rare bourbon now. :-)
Today, I finally got my bottle lease account with the local AIRGAS distributor approved so we went to pick up the needed "flame wrench" items to expedite the tailgate work. Amazing how in this day and age, unless you have a business, compressed gas dealers shun you (Homeland Security reasons maybe?).

Good morning and Blessings everyone! We managed to get more work done on rebuilding the tailgate. Finally got the outer support cut out to gain access to the hinge that needs replacing. We hope to start heating up the metal with a rosebud oxy/acy torch tip (Victor #4) to start flattening out the bumps and buckles and get the top and bottom rails straight this coming Wednesday.

I endorse the safety equipment too. Early on my project, i had kick back on an angle grinder with a wire wheel attachment. Fortunately, I was wearing safety goggles and the wire wheel just punched me in the cheek. Ended up with "road rash" on the face, but thank God the goggles protected my eyes.
I whole heartedly agree...and Behemoth, seriously...glad that wasnt worse!!!

Hi ya everyone! Not much to report lately. I saw Jeepdan's final product pictures and WOW! I need to get mine done and SOON! :-) I am now officially worshiping Dan! "Thou art God" LOL!
Any hoo, my friends came over this past Wednesday to work some more on my tailgate. My friend Dave brought his 30+ years Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company experience with him and started burning spool filler with my MIG welder. I truly am blessed to have such good friends with crazy skills.

Afternoon all!
Well it has been a little while since I was able to post anything good about progress. Finally good news to report. This coming Thursday I will finally be able to go pick up the completed cab and all the nose sheet metal.

Well I'm sure by now ya all have figured out from my other post that there will be no happy body work nice painted pictures to post for a couple of more weeks.
With that out of the way, I do have some nice things to report.
1st- Kerry (VesperNoyer) turned me on to the God of the M-715 parts at VPW. One quick phone call directly to the "God of the CONEXES" and I am awaiting for the M-715 Stork to deliver my new black plastic window guide rails that I have been going round and round with VPW for months over. I owe VesperNoyer a drink of his choice when I meet him! Thanks!!!
2nd- We finally got the passengers side roll up window back together with new rubber gaskets. What a chore. But, we think we have a couple of tricks to pass on to everyone. Let me apply my new found tricks to the driver's side window rebuild and if successful, I'll post the tricks with pictures and step by step details.
Other than that, I am so sorry I don't have pictures of a cab and nose going back together.

Aloha everyone. Not much else to do on this dreary, rainy Fall day so armed with knowledge recently learned from here on the Zone, I decided to start restoring War Pig's steering wheel myself. Got all the yellow paint off, chamfered out all the cracks and started to apply the JB Weld epoxy. Here is today's efforts. Going to be slow but not like I don't have time right now LOL.
