Screw or nuts (which I prefer) will work. I count the nuts before and after so I don't leave any inside. Easy way to shake it up is to put it in the back of your pickup and drive down a dirt road. Stop and rotate it once in a while to get all the sides.

If you use a bunch of hardware, just tie it together with a length of string. That makes it a lot easier to remove later.
Chain works well too, especially the small dog-chain that has the little cleats between the double links.

Well, wire brushed and sanded it the best I could with the tools I have, gave it two coats of duplicolor rust-fix, then two coats of underbody coating. Here's what it looked like before going back in:

Got a full tank of gas today, and for the first time ever, full wasn't defined as "just before it starts pouring on the ground" :)

Hey thanks for the help! I'm about to round up a bunch of hardware, load up the tank and strap it to the back of my tow truck for about a week! Great Job on your tank Randy! It looks NOS!

AI'm right on the heels of this thread. Doing all the same stuff to mine today. I have the inside cleaned the outside primed but now I need to fab a pickup tube, make new hanger straps and paint it with something. I thought about the undercoat, seeing yours makes me think that's a good idea.

I didn't clean the inside at all... it was clean! I think whomever attempted to braze the bottom cleaned it out already.

As a side note for quick repairs- SEALS ALL. i had a 80 trans am that was leaking gas, bad, the first time i filled it up. it was leaking under the strap, where it had rusted through, about an 1/8 inch hole and a couple pin holes after i scrubbed it with a wire brush. while gas was still leaking out, i added the SEALS ALL. its like rubber cement, and gels up after about 30 seconds. i had to put light pressure on it with my finger to hold it in place, it was messy. 2 coats, and then added some more to a piece of innertube, and strapped it back up. it lasted 2 years and i sold the car-never leaked again.

There are always some on ebay. Or try the WANTED section of this site.

On eBay, watch the seller, "italylovers". The person who puts the stuff up, Virginia, has them very often. She also sells for Vintage Power Wagons. So you may want to check with them too.
