I bought a truck years ago that a guy had "cobbled in" a dual master cylinder where a single had been before. He used a master cylinder that was for disk brakes, and put in the proportioning valve for the disk brakes. I tried everything I coud think of to make that truck stop before I sat back and thought about it. . ..took the proportioning valve out, got MUCH better brakes, .. .so went and got a CORRECT master cylinder (dual master for all drum brakes) problem solved.
Power brakes are wonderful, but you DO have to modify the push rod to attach it to the swing arm, my booster is out of a 79 J-20 pickup. I had to drill a couple holes in the dash and extend the push rod, that is it, . ..

I had to replace the whole braking system on mine. Got all new wheel cylinders from Boyce Equimpment and master cylinder to. New pads were little tough to find, a place here in Fresno Ca called Vally Friction was able to mach up a set for me. They were a little pricey but well worth it. So after replacing everything to factory specs. They work great. I did torque each wheel down to about 45 psi. For the first 100 miles or so it felt like stepping on a 2x4 but they would lock up no problem. For the break in period I stayed in town. After they got broke in they the peddle depresses about 2 inches now. They worked great. I am putting a v-8 so not for sure what will change? That was my experience.
