Also for the record: today I changed the motor oil (twice) and the front diff. fluid (once).
The engine oil was dark, but not completely black, and felt smooth. No particles, flakes, or sludge. The second change came out browner than it went in, but it wasn't bad. For now I just threw in some cheapo autozone oil and a fram filter. I'll give it a couple hundred miles and then change it out for some better oil and nicer filter...
Had I known how good the diff fluid was, I might not have even bothered to change it. The gears look good, though we did bang out a dent in the diff that had scrape marks on the inside... yeah, not good... but no sign of the scrapings in the GO, so it must have been a change or more old.
Also did a seafoam treatment in the intake. If it's possible, it idles just a tiny bit better now than before, with the fresh oil and all. Also put in 16 gallons of gas... apparently the fuel gauge doesn't work-- it read full from the start, and didn't budge! I just want to be sure to keep it as full as possible for a while to help dilute any possible sludge buildup in the tank, seeing how it's been sitting for 3+ years without stabil or anything. Actually my buddy and I were talking about it and figured the gas could be as old as 6 or 8 years, easily, since it was used so little in the final years before being taken out of service and stored. As best we can remember, it was only used for maybe 3 calls in the 4 years before it was taken out of service.
Next: the rest of the fluid, checking plugs/gaps, compression check, and checking & repairing some wiring-- the fuse for the red lights has blown twice, and the tail/brake lights cut out at least once on a short test drive. Also still need to find the mirrors and pick up a blinker switch... anyone have one??

Hmm, somebody needs to invent some sort of super-water-repellent substance to put in places like that to keep water out. Maybe I'll mark it on my maintenance schedule to remove those once a year and repaint...Quote:
