Don't know if it was already brought up or not, but most tractor engines are designed to run at a certain RPM and that is where they make all their power and torque, that's why the big tractors have 8-18 gears. Unless you can get all those gears I imagine that they wouldn't make good engines for a truck.
I'm no tractor expert, but I would guess the gearing on a big tractor is more for being able to get huge payloads going rather than because of motor power curves. Ever seen a tractor towing multiple huge trailers of hay through a field? The weight plus rolling resistance in the dirt = lots of gears needed, no?
doesn't it also make sense if they had all the gears to keep the engine at its sweet point so it could pull all that weight and to overcome the rolling resistance?
please note the time at which i wrote that. i rest my case. :)
I like the two color Desert camo, Stampy! Looks cool. I think that't what I am going to do with my Deuce....
Look'n Good!!!
thanks, well we are finally done moving, sort of.... but close to done. still getting settled in. my rocker pannel finally came in last week. and now i need to go to a body shop and get a spot weld drill, its like a mini sized hole saw. i started drilling the welds out, and the bit broke, so i have to get some more. man i dont know about your guys trucks, but wow, this thing has a TON of welds. i counted 10 just where the cab curves in the back for the door.
get a set of roto-broaches. they are called spot weld cutters too. i would also reccomend a 1/8 inch pilot hole for each spot weld. makes it alot easier.
