Sweet!!
Yep, sounds like the 6.2 in my '86 Chevy. Good Job!
now im having a problem....
even in the vid you can see its running rough... well, im not positive, but im scared that i might have a bad injecter... i might have maby 30 min run time of this motor so far, and its still running rough. ive tryed adjusting timing, and it didnt help...
but what i dont understand (im not a expert) but it idels rough, but even with a slight little bit of throttle it smooths out. so im not shure what it is, but we might be getting another 6.2 for parts, so ill go through injecters...
will the old school trick of writing on the exhaust manifolds with a crayon work with a 6.2?
we do it on tractors to find the dead cyl. because if the cyl are operating they produce heat thus melts the crayon, but the dead cyl's wont...will this work with a 6.2? i might try it anywase. but any tips on how to find which one is not firing?
Hey Stamp,
Its Alive! Looking good. You are making a heluvalot more progress than I am. One of those infrared pyrometers would work good for checking this out. A buddy has one that I borrow from time to time. They are pricey buy I have seen some down to around $50. They are great for checking out problems like you suspect as well as checking cooling systems, catalytic operation, and even to see if your waffles are done in the morning. Just point and shoot and it reads the temp. Other than that bouncing around a known good injector will work. Good luck, keep the pics coming. J.D.
Try feeling the exhaust manifolds with your hand not too long after you start it. Thats what my gramps does. I've also heard of old timers spitting on the manifolds to see which cylinder is hotter or colder than the others. A heat gun is nice but does cost. Your hand will be able to feel any big difference. Try running some diesel treatment thru system before you start replacing injectors and pump. I use Stanadyne at my work and you would be amazed at what it can do. If you do have a bad injector replace all of them at once. Will save you mucho headaches and time. I wrench for a living and have done injector replacement a few times on the 6.2 in civilian life and as a jarhead. I'm working on swapping a 6.5 turbo engine into mine or I have a 5.9 cummins. Decisions. Nice job on yours.
thanks. its running good now, it was probly air in the system and it aventually worked it out. i now have a problem with one of my lifters. its starting to bottom out or something, i think im going to change the oil and try that, the oils about 10 years old haha. so that probly most of the problem.
ill post a new vid soon... i got the exhaust done yesterday...

more questions...
i need everything for a manual set up, i have nothing of a clutch
i need clutch kit, fly wheel
i had the parts priced out at autozone, for a duralast HD clutch, its $274 and the flywheel with core is $59, w/o core its $130
is their better ones cheaper?
the clutch has a 1 year warrente
Do you already have a flywheel? If so then any good machine shop can resurface it for less than 59 dollars. That price for the clutch kit and flywheel doesn't seem that bad but then if you have no money its a lot.
