I am impressed. Your welding bead looks verrrry nice, wish I could weld like that.

As always your work is top notch in my book!!
Are you planning on adding a coating to the inside? I made my tank from stainless and then lined the inside with POR-15's fuel tank liner just to make sure there were no leaks.
I actually did it in two steps, after the sides went on and the baffle in I brushed the liner in the seams, then welded the top on and poured a bunch of the liner in and tilted the tank in all directions to coat the top seam and 2nd coat anything else. Works great. I put a drain in the bottom too, just in case :).

thanks guys
i hadn't thought about using a liner. the idea intrigues me though. i think for now i will just run it, should there be a problem in the future, i will just pull the tank and fix the leak. if that ever happens (fingers crossed) i will be more inclined to spend some money on a liner. for now i am going on faith that my welding holds up.
today i worked on the tank mounting for a bit. have to get some material for the straps, and i think i may try to find some stainless if we have any laying around at work that i can make use of.

:worship:
After looking at your welds (especially vs mine) I would trust yours LONG before I would trust mine.
Thanks
that is one thing i like about tig welding, you are going slow enough, you can see what is happening. i made sure to see that it was penetrating so hopefully all is well. now i just need to hurry up so i have a reason to fill it and test it with gas :)
next big thing on my list is the wiring harness. then i will need drivelines and it should be able to do some lot driving.

did a little tinkering today. plumbed in the feed and return line for the fuel tank. i had bought a slew of rubber hose for the job but decided to make the majority of the line out of steel instead. so i had to cruise back to napa and trade my rubber for steel line.
anyhow, i still have to plumb the tank vent up to the air cleaner. i also need to get some more line clamps for the smaller vent and return line. i think i will use the same thing i did for the brake line only get the double line version.
forgot the camere so no pics, but its just fuel lines... ill get the pics next time i remember
Ryan.
That tank looks great Ryan! Can you build a 2nd one for a 30? :D
I wish that I got down your way once in a while, but that's a long and hard 100 miles. I read that even the local Denver tv stations are still trying to get down there with programming. I'd like to make the trip when you get that truck on the road.
it would be a little more than a thirty. but i am not in to the tank much more than time. i think the material cost 55 bucks and the weld bungs where about 8 bucks apeice. outside of the time invested that is pretty cheap IMO
i plan on heading up your direction after its running also. been meaning to get up there and check out whats north of me for a while. the 715 is a cooler mountain road cruiser than the other vehicles. so one way or another we will meet up i am sure

stopped buy and grabbed some pics
got the tank installed with the stainless straps i made. they are 308 14 guage. had to do some patching to get into an area of the filler neck that was still viable after 40 years.

here is the pickup line and the return is the rubber peice that comes in from the top of the crossmember. after having built the tank i have found a few things i think i would do differently if i was to remake it.

steel lines for the fuel.

for now they are zip tied to the crossmember. i will have to figure out a better way to hard mount them on the crossmember. or they may end up permenantly mounted with zip ties. the return is zip tied to the feed line, since it is mounted with line clamps on the frame rail. i need to order some more cool guy billet line clamps for the return and the vent line that will eventually be run with it.
