Very well done.
Welcome home Cummins 5.9L..... Straight from CAD to the frame rails... no mock mounting.... no modification... slipped right in!
Now to drill the rest of the motor mounting holes and fab up a Trans/NP205 support member... and final welding on the mounts themselves...

Very clean install.
For many years I kept hearing how you have to lift FSJs to fit a Cummins, how you have to cut the firewall...
Beautiful work.
Looks great...even the shock mounts and bump stops hanging in primer!.....
Great rig you're building there. I am really enjoying your posts.
so the measurements worked out ok?
X2,
Did the 6-1/4 bottom and 2-1/4 top measurements work ok for the width? I have the mounts made from my mock up measurements with a 29-1/2 distance between the frame rails.
I had my shoulder scoped last month, so I wont be getting mine in between the rails for a month or two. I'm curious to know if mine are 100% or not
My bad, it is 30", I was deducting for the 1/4" plates on each side of my mounts.
Did the 2-1/4 top and 6-1/4 bottom measurements work out ok on yours?
I show 2.500 top and 6.500 bottom... and that number is from the face of the M-715 frame.
I don't know for sure if it is correct... does it 'hold the motor' yes.... is the engine sitting too high... I don't know yet... It will be 2 weeks before I get my cab tub back on to confirm dimensions. If your in a hurry have at it... but I'm nervous yes that it is sitting too high... so if you go ahead... just be aware that you may end up scraping the mounts.
My mounts are only tack welded together to hold the weight.. .a few zips and viola.. I'm back apart... reface the 4x4 square tubes to remove material and get the engine to sit lower... and weld them back up.
The numbers are preliminary and unverified... my assumption right now is NO... these numbers will NOT work yet... I think the engine is slightly too high to clear tunnel/hood/ cowl height firewall issues.
Thanks man. No huge rush, I'm 1 armed for a bit. I did get a measurement with 1st gen mounts of 20" with the anchor motor mounts on:

http://i64.tinypic.com/29z8nsw.jpg
20.375 is what I show in the 3D model so your right there..... and my number is suspect solely due to the anchor mounts being all over the map.
Nice ingenuity on measuring width.. I like it.
Thanks for the confirmation venom
At 2.5" you are .25" longer than mine on both sides so that will push the 12valve up 1/2" or is it 1"? my geometry isn't what it used to be. I'm using oem 12 valve motor mounts so you might have some wiggle room if you are too high and then use something aftermarket. I think either way you are going to be close since you went 2.5"
You will have more pan clearance though :)
IIt's in... it fits.... BARELY... but to all the nay-sayers that think it can't be done.... without firewall clearance and behind the cowl support/radiator line. (I'll need to use pusher fans tho).

Nice postings, enjoying the details. Very strange, I also ripped my bicep and am a one armed bandit at the moment as well which is prompting me to peck out these questions. Also waiting to put in the exact same thing 6BT motor. You and a few on board here are intimately familiar. Two questions, my apology if I missed something earlier. Are you planning on some sort of cross member up front under the motor somewhere? I'm tempted to use a stock Gen 1 dodge its nearly made to work with a little shim. If dodge in all of their infinite wisdom decided they needed such a heavy cross member on a frame literally twice as heavy as an M-715…well thats why I am where I am. Apprehensive to do without it. The other question, I am also using rock wells. Even flopped on stock springs they are tall. What would you guys say would be a safe distance between the bottom of the pan and the rock housing. Mine isn't exactly going to be any jumper or articulating monster. A little cross member trimming and a snubber with 3-4"'s? You guys have thought this through already. Your opinions will be better than anyones. Funny you take that motor out of an m715 and it looks like to could put a hot tub in there until you start messing with a diesel. Dang things are deceivingly tall.
Backing plates pulled off the Sterling 10.25.... its nothing exciting... but first time working on it in months... and probably the last until a new shop/house is purchased.... Was EXTREMLY impressed with how the races and bearings looked... when the disc brake conversion goes on... it will get new inner seals and some permatex on the axle side.... and viola... rear axle done.... Looking forward to more progress. You staying in the area?
In the process of moving... x10 upgrading shop space.....
But I did grab the matching trailer.... albeit.... upgraded M101-A2 which now shares the same bolt pattern of my modern axle swapped M715....

More trailer build.... Rear landing leg and surge break shock absorber....
Got the surge brake shock replaced and added the OEM rear stabilizer leg.....

Looks great!
