I used to use Rain-X years ago and it did work, as long as you were driving at highway speed. Slow traffic or around town and you had a beaded up windshield. It also likes to build up on the windshield after a while and it will begin to get an oily sort of film that distorts your view. The only thing I found that would take it off was Ajax or Comet cleanser.
Randy, how many of those brass nuts came with your kit? mine only had the one on the base of the shaft , a rubber washer, a metal washer and then the other brass nut. Looks like you used 3 of them . did ya have ta buy one?
I seem to recall I bought an install kit with the motors, that had extra nuts, washers and seals.
I didnt order the install kit and only had one nut. I made spacers out of small DOM and it worked just fine. Install kit would have been easier but there are other ways.
Randy thanks again for this. The only disappointing thing about this was how easy the install was
I checked with adap, napa, ace and aubuchon, home depot, lowes and with wild horses where i bought the kit and nobody had the nuts , so i ended up using the spacers as well. I found some at lowes that fit perfect. Install was simple, thanks randy!
I just bought this kit. Thanks for the great writeup!
My problem is that I'm trying to do the install by remote control! The truck's in Texas, and my wife's flying down to drive it home.
Can anyone give me a hole-to-hole measurement? I want to mock it up, do the wiring, make the spacers, and have it ready to drop in...
Oh, yeah- how long did those spacers end up?
BTW, Wild Horses said that they had some of the nuts on hand when I talked to them. I'm supposed to be getting a few extras.
Thanks!
If I understand what you are asking, here are measurements from when I added YJ wipers:
I finally go around to putting wipers on. I bought a YJ motor and linkage over the winter. I mounted the linkage first. I welded up the passenger side hole, then redrilled both sides with a 7/8" hole saw. I ised a file to cut the keyway slots in the holes. The center to center of the wiper posts was about 22-7/8"<br />
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...s/IMAG0131.jpg
That's exactly what I was looking for- thanks!
Sub, it was late when I posted (for an old guy like me), I gave you some bad info. I believe the stock distance post to post is 22.5. Check this thread out:
http://www.m715zone.com/vb/showthread.php?t=18416
The hole to hole measurement won't make any difference if you are using the Wild Horses kit. They are two separate motors, unlike the CJ/YJ wiper setup which has a transmission and one motor on the right side.
The wiring length would be the only thing that would be a variable between the two motors, but that could be temporary until you get it home.
Thanks Randy, I was paying less attention than I thought I was. I had a vision of sub welding up and redrilling a hole based on my post
Wont matter with separate:cool: motors
Actually, I'm wiring the kit then sending it to the PO (4000 miles away) to install. Having that measurement kind of close will help a lot!
...and it did help a lot! Thanks! The PO said that they were a complete drop-in.
Wild Horses shipped the kit reasonably fast- about a week to AK. They charged me $45 for FedEx. I think the motors could have fit in a Priority Flat Rate box for $15, but they didn't think so. Whatever.
The extra nuts I added to my order on the phone for $15 must fit a Bronco, because they're completely the wrong diameter and thread pitch for the wipers I got. An email on the subject was ignored. With shipping and going to the PO, it's not really worth my time to press it over $6 nuts, but now you know.
The 1.5" spacers from Lowes worked perfectly. I had to run a drill through the big ones to get them over the brass threads. A little sandpaper work would probably do the trick too, just smoothing out some roughness inside.
I noticed two things while Googling these motors:
-boat folks like them too, but pay a lot more. Wild Horses was the cheapest I could find.
-they come in different offsets (length of threaded shaft). Shorter ones might not require the spacers. I'll know more about that when I see the truck.
Thanks for the info about wild horses. It may save someone an unwanted headache. Good info on the wipers too
I've been running one of those cheap chinese things. (broke one of them installing it..) Ready to upgrade. This thread inspired me but I'm cheap.
I ordered 2 of these wiper motors.

Now to hunt around for a switch...
I think this is one of the threads on here that would be so great to be able to see Randy's build pictures from the first page or two of this thread. I am so wanting to give that set up a try on my M725, but I'd love to see the pics first. It looks like they have been removed. Am I the only one that can't see the pics??
Cheers,
Bryce
Tomorrow I'll try to get a few pics of my setup like his.
That would be great subybaja.

Bryce

I finally got around to mounting those John Deere wiper motors.
The wires aren't marked on it, that was fun. No terminals, just 4 wires running into the motor. Black, red, blue, and green.

I don't remember the advertised shaft length on those motors. I put an arm and blade on one and test fit... ended up with about a 1' spacer to get the right angle of the dangle for the blade on the glass. Or as close to 1" as a 3/4 inch nut is...
I found this wiring diagram showing how to use an on-off-on toggle switch for 2 speed wipers.
http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/...pstznv9rmg.jpg
I figured black was ground. After I mounted them up I used the old hot wire for the cheapo chinese unit I pulled off and tested each of the other wires to find Park, Fast and Slow.
That's all I had time to do. If the carrier bearings for the rear or the new kingpin bearings don't show up Thursday I'll put the toggle switch in and run some wires.
I'm not sure what sweep these motors have. It didn't feel like much when I was testing wires and it was running. I popped the cover off one of the gear boxes and they are adjustable.
The wiper motors are running $45 and some change on ebay. I don't remember what I paid for a new set of CJ5 wiper arms and blades. And a 3 way toggle switch at Autozone.
A. R. G. H!
Great find! Those look exactly the same, except $100 cheaper! Got a link?
I'll also be going toggle like yours. The rotary switch is annoying to use.
Link please, or part number?

Here's the link to the current auction:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Windshie...FWL2bc&vxp=mtr
The seller is PartsPlayer1, they've got a ton of them.
I tried to sort out the part numbers but it gets confusing. Lots of cross referencing and replacing for this and that. Mine are 12v and 2.5 inch shaft, which I think works out pretty good.
My spacer was 3/4 inch, not 1 inch like I posted earlier. But the spacer isn't just to adjust shaft length for the wipers, gotta have it to keep the motor gear box from hitting the top of the windshield frame.. I didn't catch that earlier in the thread.
But yeah, I like the toggle better than a rotary switch too. And if you already have splined wiper arms this is about half the price. .... Don't remember what I paid for the switch at Autozone but it seemed kinda pricey for a toggle switch.
If you're still running 24 volts there's these motors.

I thin this link has been posted before but not sure...
I forgot to update my El Cheapo version of the Bronco kit till Brute posted a link in another thread.
the cheapo wiper motors work great, but... they aren't synched up. Don't know if that's because I'm using a toggle instead of an expensive rotary switch or something else I did.
it's not a big deal (and an interesting conversation piece) except for when you turn them off. Sometimes they'll just keep running for a minute or so, one will be in Park position and the other won't.
I'll revisit that one of these days... will try 1) wiring separate Park hots instead of sharing one. 2) a different switch or 3) separate switches.
If I lived n the NW and was getting rained on every day I'd care more.
10" blades... 11s are too long, they hit the windshield seal at the bottom.
Definitely not your toggle. Mine's rotary and not synched. I think it's kind of cool, in a clown-car sort of way.
WildHorses sells a synched set for $200 more than non.
LOL, yeah, I like the clown car vibe. My wife has only ridden in it once when it was raining, that drove her nuts.
Well cool, I won't worry about my switch then. May just add a separate switch mounted in the middle of the dash for the passenger side... in a year or two.. when I get to it.
This just in, direct from FB:
http://www.surpluscenter.com has 24v Marinco wipers for $30 each (as of Mar '17).

Are these Wild Horse wiper motors weatherproof? I can't remember reading that they are.
I don't remember reading anything about them or the Deere wipers being waterproof. they seem to be sealed pretty good, could probably tolerate more rain than I will. I had my fill of rain in the face when I had my bike.
Now that I can post pics again I thought I'd tack some of the lost pics on here in case anyone needs them later.

I have pictures on flicker and can't finger out how to move them what the trick.
I feel your pain... their interface is kinda screwy compared to PB. And I read they like to change it up pretty often too. I'll try noting the steps while I post a pic..
Click the pic from your photostream you want to post.
Click the little Share arrow at the bottom right of the pic. It's not labeled till you hold your pointer over it... I hate that, hieroglyphics...
In the box that pops up, click BBCode and you can choose what size you want the pic to be. It'll remember which options you choose and they'll already be picked next time you post.
Then right click on the highlighted text in the center field and copy it.
Then go back to your post draft and right click and paste that text into your message where you want it to be.
...and hit preview to see if you screwed it up..
First pic I took of my truck the day I drove it home.
That's at 800x450 , medium.

von thanks for the help
Yeah, thanks.
And thanks for resurrecting pics!
I wonder why my PB pics still show? Temporary, I'm sure.
