I'm sorry sir, I meant the 'Brake' hydro linkage..
BUT, nonetheless Those pics were GREAT! I didn't need my cheaters and they weren't blurry..
Mine was setup for a GM drive train and only had two pedals (the other was behind the seat). SO, a little 'look-see' is in order.

Progress today. I got the engine in, and started connecting everything

More pics tomorrow, and hopefully diesel smoke if I make good progress
Nice fab work hope you get smoke soon.
Looking good.....seeing something come out of the exhaust for the first time is a GREAT feeling
No smoke today. I just need to get battery cables crimped and put some fuel in the tank to fire it up.
- still need to mount the new radiator
- make a clutch rod from the slave to the fork
- mount the battery tray
- remount front clip
mine is cracked as well but not through should i replace it and if so how long do they last? how did this post get here ?
I am getting close, but its 2 steps forward, 1 step back. I put coolant in the radiator, and heard the drip drip drip sound... this summer one of the kids knocked something of the shelf in the garage, and it knocked into the radiator, and left a dent. It looked like it was ok, but apparently not. I'll be taking that out to see if I can get it tig'ed
I was going to wait to crank it over until I had coolant in it, but said "what the heck". Well it cranked, but the starter didn't engage the flywheel. I thought that I had the right starter, but it looks like it is an auto trans starter...
No smoke until after Christmas
Seems like I always take 1 step forward and 2 back....... what is the secret to your success?
Smoke for Christmas would be a great gift indeed. Hang in there. Looking forward to a status report!!!
I was looking at your tank pics and noticed no return line fitting. That engine has a fuel return line right?
Yes, I plumbed it into the vent/return line on the back of the fuel filler. Ive got 3/8 for the feed and return.
I got my new radiator back from getting patched, and the starter issue ended up being that the bellhousing from the sbc needed a little clearancing with a dremel.
I was ready to fire it up, but the used electric fuel pump wouldnt power on, despite power to the leads
I'm just waiting for my fuel pump to come from the mailman. Maybe Sat or Monday...
In the mean time, I got the seat rebuild kits for Christmas, and reupholstered one of the seats yesterday... SWEET!
Got a bunch of pipe, bends, and made the 2-1/2 exhaust.
Here is the front part. I just need to get a few more hangers, but its under the truck now

Nice work. It is amazing what new seat covers can do.

Thanks Scott, I used your writeup as a guide. Believe it or not, upholstery has always been intimidating to me., but your pics made it look easy.
Diesel Power!
Glad to hear you got it to rattle George. Way to go.
Nice to hear you got it going. Way to go.
Thanks guys. No pics yet, I ended up helping a buddy paint some rooms this afternoon
I took a couple of videos of the truck:

I think that I have the wrong alternator. I tried 2 different water pump pulleys, and they both line up fine with the crank pulley. It seems to be 1/4" back
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20110-1232.jpg
From the picture it looks like the alternator is a little too far forward. Is that what you mean?
Is there supposed to be a washer between the alternator and the bracket? Is it possible the bracket is bent?
Agreed, looks to me like a washer or 2 to adjust the alternator position should fix ya...unless I am missing it too.
The picture doesnt do justice for the angles guys, it is actually too far back. I can mod the bracket, but Im not sure that I have the right alt or pulleys.
I swapped the water pump pulleys for the 2 groove to the 3 groove type, but have the same thing (alt too far back).
I am thinking maybe it is not the right alternator. For you guys who have been following my engine swap, I've went through 3 engines to get a good block. I am thinking that I mixed parts at my buddies house. He is out of town this week, so I'll have to wait to see what he has laying around
Its a runner and a driver. I have a few things to finish up, but I ran her up to the gas station and but a few $ worth of diesel in it.

Nice feeling, isn't it? Good job George.
:)Glad its running, If you or anyone needs military canvas for seat covers, I have boxes and boxes of Half tents, they are great for making cot covers or seat covers. They even say US on them. Cheep to free plus shipping and they fit in a flat rate box..And they are new. Joe:)
Anytime.
WOW, very exciting! Great vids too. Congratulations!
Congrats on you progress. I'm looking forward to getting that far along on my own project.
I'd like to request s a longer video. The ones you posted are just a tease. I'd love to see one of it going down the road.
Hats off to ya!! Drive until you cant wipe the smile off your face...then post a pic of that...sounds like a good thing to document after all the work so far!!
Thanks guys. I'll post up when I can get my son to man the camera.
No updates for a while, so I thought that I would add some info.
The injection pump was leaking out of the passenger side plunger thing (technical term). It was a recent rebuilt pump that I got from my buddy. He had another. I put that on and fired it up without the intake manifold on. Pretty much the same thing, except it waited to leak until shut down.
I'm waiting on that until I see what I get for a bonus check at the end of the fiscal year at work (end of April). Badger Diesel seems to have good pricing for a rebuilt IP
So I switched gears, and am working on stuff that doesn't require much cash.
I took the single lung master cylinder off, cleaned and painted the firewall area. I'll mount the hydroboost and MC tomorrow. I put the PS pump on today, but had to remove the lower rear bracket. Bolt was frozen. Some heat and an impact freed it up.
I'll run tomorrow for some new V-belts for the pump, and maybe have HB assisted brakes before the weekend is up.
I'll post up a few pics this weekend.
Progress is good, keep it up.:)
