Weatherstripping

I'm curious about the upper weather-strip, as I was able to locate aftermarket material that worked well without a permanent attachment (i.e. rivets, glue, etc.). Oddly, I used material sourced from a local salvage yard, but it has a metallic internal that allows for a person to pinch the "seal" or compression and does not separate from the vehicle.

I used this method since one of the doors is bent a bit, and I thought I'd use a heavier W.S. All material was sourced from a junk yard and is in good shape. I utilized the passenger side W.S. from a J-20 and the bent drivers side door from an early Scout. All seals are pretty tight during the winter season and the material is not brittle.

The weatherstripping BJ's sells is for Fullsize Jeep, wagoneers. It is called universal door seal. It was made to go on the pinch weld of the cab to seal the doors. I bought it for that purpose. I tried it on both doors. With my stock weatherstripping still attatched to my doors they would not close, too tight. I believe it would work fine if the stock weather stripping was not on the doors. I didn't want to remove my stock weather stripping because it is still intact and very functional. I cleaned it up with 303 protectant. I did find I liked the universal doors seal for the cab top above the roll up door windows much better than the st26a stuff I purchased from Restoration Specialties. It went on the window frame very easy. It has metal inside you can pinch if you want but the adhesive they put inside seems to be holding it in place very well at this point. The Restoration specialties st36a would need glue/rivets or something to hold it on as the pinch part is much wider than the Bj's universal door seal stuff. I tried both and was very happy with the Bj's weatherstripping. Hope that helps Markness

I just got my universal kit from BJ's good quality stuff.

I think you will fin the Bj's weatherstripping fits around the window frames much better than the weatherstripping from Restoration Specialties. Let us know what you think when you install it. I just pushed mine on the window frames and cut to desired length. So far so good as it has not moved yet. With no attatment screws, it has silicone or tar or sticky stuff inside the press on channel.

i'll try tp post a pic of what i have found .... they are door seal from school bus ... If i had a hard top i am sure the cab would be 100% waterproof. They just clipped over the pinch around the cab and top section ... took 2 weeks before able to closed correctly the door because the rubber must molded around the door .... it aint cheap ... $140 for a roll of 25 feets ... but worth every penny. Now more rattles or gap around the door windows ... everything is now tight and sealed.
