Most of the 327's were used in Wagoneers with Automatic transmissions (turbo 400 early buick bell housing with an adapter. I have not seen the 327 with a standard transmission, but I am sure they are out there. They used three different engines through these years, the 230, the 327 and the 350 Buick, all used a special long bell housing and longer input shaft on the manual transmission. If I were going to a "similar to stock" V-8, I would go with the Buick, a lot easier to get parts for as they were the same engine as the other buicks, so the only issue would be the trans. I had a 350 in a J3000 with a 4 speed, . great combination.
Interesting...the ones I have seen are automatics too...
