I just recently went through a similar problem. It looked like I was getting gas and had good spark, but when I put it in gear and stepped on the gas in would lurch and die. It could idle but any load on the motor would kill it. This started about a month after getting the truck and driving it regularly.
In the end it turned out to be rust from the gas tank in the gas and plugged fuel filters. Don't know if this is your problem but your symptoms sound a lot like mine.

Fuel tank could be the culprit. I tapped in a fuel filter in the rubber line between the fuel tank draw and the main fuel line (right under the filler neck by the frame.) and it has some rust chips in it once in a blue moon, but I change it out regularly. I have another just before the carb and it stays clean. The problem could be IN the tank though.
I had a 67 Ford Galaxie 500 and it used to just die at anytime, anyplace. I'd wait about 15-30 minutes and it would start OK. Gas tanks do weird things. I still think it is the carb, so I might have found one to replace mine. If that doesn't work, I'll tackle the tank. If it isn't the carb this will be me->:suicide:
seriously though, I might find out it is all the above, usually that is the case when I get stumped like this. My wife will kill me when I ask..."honey, can I spend $500 to get my M715 tank re-done?" Then I will be shooting myself! :suicide::lol:
it might be the sock on the fuel pickup in the tank. try blowing air back through the fuel line - it will remove the gunk from the sock or blow the sock off of the pickup line, in which case your new filter will catch the gunk and you can see it.
also had my tank cleaned for ~ $135.
Well, I disconnected the fuel tank and hooked up a 5 gal. jerry can bypass. I let her run for awhile and even drove around the block a couple times. NO CHANGE. It was drawing plenty of gas, so it's not the fuel tank.
I guess I have narrowed it back to the carb. Ivan is helping me track down a new one, so we will see if I can get her going again.
