Jeepdan's tornado teardown

Had a nice day off from work to play in the garage:)

I finally got the block scrubbed with hot water and soap to get rid of any honing grit and more importantly, to make sure the oil galleries were clean.
Then, I used a half of a can of WD-40 and compressed air to dry the block, before flash rust started to form.

Then after that, I spent the afternoon checking piston ring gaps, and then installing the new rings onto the cleaned, original pistons.

Checking clearances on the new USA made Federal Mogal bearings.

All were at .002 or slightly under.

I've rebuilt two of these engines from the ground up. I thought I was doing a thorough job until I saw these pics.

I'm still trying to find the best paper towel or rag out there that doesn't leave so much lint.
Any ideas?

This engine overhaul has been painfully slow.

While torqueing down the connecting rod nuts, two of them, just didn't feel quite right:confused:
So, I found some NOS from Willys America. I only replaced the two in question.
Here is the bottom end, ready for the last visual inspection before putting the oil pan in place.

Just an edit to the entry above, I replaced the two connecting rod bolts.

Camshaft is shipped off for repairs.

I made up the 5/16" steel line for the top end.
I thought about going 1/4" and then disguise it with a rubber sleeve and the protective wire spring, to look like the old hose.
But, I didn't.

I installed the NOS intake manifold with it's fittings.
Then, I temporarily installed the NOS governor and carb.
After that, I had a hot cup of tea, while I sat admiring it for awhile.
