I'm pretty much committed at this point. I'll definitely let everyone know how it works out.
I've gotten the motor mounts tacked in place and a tranny mount is almost finished.[IMG]http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/2...nymount.th.jpg[IMG]http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/8...ormount.th.jpg

I had a turbo 200r4 in an old 85 Monte carlo ss swapped in a mild 350.
tranny was week when I sold it , died shortly after.
Seems like the turbo 350 was supposed to bolt in the same dimensions.
It would be worth a look.
Trust me I understand having to use what you have!

I had a turbo 400 and a turbo 350 that I could have put in. I really want the overdrive. I have a 700r4 also but opted to use the 200 because I've got a friend who recommended it.
Time will tell.

Relative strenghts: TH400= toughest TH350= Intermediate TH200= Light Duty, commuter car.

i know many people don't like the 200-4r transmission. It got a bad reputation same as the early 700r4's. Many people can't get beyond that. GM fixed the problems with the early design and continued to use the tranny until about 1990. It was used in full sized Cadillacs weighing over 4000 pounds. It was also used in the Buick GNX (which was considered a performance car). Keep in mind I'm putting it behind a stock 305ci small block chevy. I'm probably pushing 160 HP and 220 pound/ft torque. I may actually do some engine work and get it over 200 HP and 280 pound/ft torque. This is not serious horse power or torque.
The tranny actually has very good gear ratios. Gear ratios of the 200-4R are: 2.74 first, 1.57 second, 1.00 third, .67 fourth.
My goal isn't to build the biggest and strongest truck out there. I'm trying to build a truck that is not too expensive to drive and can hold up to Sunday driving and maybe tow my brothers cj-2a to the dunes a couple times a year.

It's been a while since I've updated my progress.
I've basically changed my mind/direction on this too many times to make any real progress. I'm done changing my mind now. (I think).
I have decided to put the original t98 tranny back in and use a Novak adapter I am getting through the wanted section here on the zone. Thanks Andy.
Anyone know how to delete threads in the wanted section that are no longer needed?
I have started sandblasting the original transmission. I want to do do the entire drive line now. I don't have a big enough compressor to sandblast with so it is taking a looong time. It also makes a huge mess in the garage. I think it will be worth it though.
I will likely paint everything before it gets put back together. The painting will also slow me down because it is really too cold here now to paint in my work area. I will likely have to wait til spring to paint.

Good top hear the update!
If anyone wants a thread deleted, you can contact any moderator on the foum in question or me to get that done...also note that on the for sale and the craigslist/ebay boards, the site prunes at around 60 days...the wanted board prunes off threads with no activity in the last 180 or so.

Decided to post a picture of the slow progress. I have abandoned to automatic transmission and have put the original transmission back in using a Novak adapter.

Okay. I'm not quite sure if I should start a new thread or just resurrect this old one and update it with my change in direction.
Here is a video clip of my current progress.
